I called the landing and they stated that the water was about 2 feet high and not muddy at all. I may give it a try Sat.

Is it a good crappie lake? How big is it?
I have heard it is a good crappie lake but it seems to be a little better known for the monster florida bass and big red ears. I have never seen it but Have been trying to get overthere for the past few weeks. 752 acres AGFC | Lake Information and Maps
You may be surprised by the conditions of the houses around the boat ramp !
Please explain. If the lake is a mess I will go to Eufaula
The lake itself is o.k.. But the surrounding neighborhood looks like a dump. I drove by to check it out while on a trip and took one look and decided I would never go fishing there. when I go fishing I try to find a place with beautiful scenery. Because of it's location, it is most likely over fished. Now this is just my opinion. But if it was me I would go to Eufaula. Tony
Oh, ok. Hopefully my truck won't get broke into.
The neighborhoods aren't exquisite but I have never had any problem. Launch ramp on the north east corner of the lake (Bells Chapel Rd) is best if you ask me. The only one with a dock.
Where you from Swamper? I haven't ever been there so is there a bait store close to the Chapel Rd ramp?
the lake is up more that a couple feet i assure you and as of yesterday afternoon pretty muddy.
no bait shop at bell's, you will have to go to lucky landing for live bait.
I'm in Russellville. There was a small bait shop and campground last year. Did they close it? The years tend to run together. Lucky landing has a good ramp but no dock. Bad for me b/c I fish fiberglass. Watch out for stumps!
I put a keel guard on my boat and I prefer to park it on the ramp rather than at a dock or gravel bank. Reason is there is less chance of parking on a rock on the ramp than there is beside it and a dock is just a scratch waiting to happen. Thanks for the info.
i have fished atkins quite a bit over the years had some great days ,east end of lake is best for crappie west end is shallow lots of bass around cypress trees. lucky landing is still open, the cove in front the bait shop is pretty good .just watch out for stumps! i usally fish along the dam on the east end just find the trench its about 100ft.away from dam only deep water in the lake usally its 20 ft.deep and work the edges.
lucky landing is open, bells chapel bait shop is closed.
