I haven't done it yet but at the grocery store you can buy those big jars of minced garlic. Was thinking about draining the juice into another jar and using it for scent. Hummm, might just do that today.
hmm... has to be garlic powder and water. mixed together. works everytime.
anise oil makes a great attractant.
Noone has any recipes?
Someone has to have there own recipe... that isn't a family secret :p
Glycerin from drug store. Put tiny bit in sandwich bag, add anise oil few drops. Put in plastics. Seal bag and rub them around. Keeps them slick and shinny sent stays pretty good. Going to try same thing and add garlic powder. You can also use it as a dip. For what ever you are fishing with.
Fish oil from your trapping supply store works real good!
no real ratio but here is what i came up with in the 80s
cooking oil of some kind
a bit of garlic powder(i dont use much at all)
salt (plenty)
couple drops of anise oil
i use a small wide mouth jar to keep it in. then i can just dip my jig in real fast while fishing.
cray, add a couple of drops of vanilla extract to that mix and see what happens. Only suggestion I'd add, don't bank fish with it. It will also attract deer. I use equal amounts of anise oil and vanilla extract with my glycerin and dip leaves in it and drop a few around where I'm hunting. Can't fall asleep or you will miss the action.
Menhaden oil works wonders as a fish attractor. This can be purchased probably by googling the product and contacting a supplier. I found a quart for $5.00 many years ago at a bait shop in Virginia Beach Va. If you smell it it will remind you of fish formula crawfish scent.
I have made many different types over the years and some with pretty good success. What I did different than what you all have done is that for my base I used petroleum jelly also known as Vaseline.
Take a jar of Vaseline and place it jar and all in a small pot of water and bring the water to a boil. Your Vaseline will melt to a real thin liquid and then you can add whatever scents you would like to try.
When you fish you can rub some of this on your baits and it will stay on really well.
You can put in 1 scent or many to each jar and maybe come up with the new hot scent.
One of my Grandfathers tricks so many years ago.
Give it a try and good luck.
