What do y'all think about fishing Okatibbee on May 14th? We could have a tourney and a get together. For those fishing the MCC tourney on the 21st, it would be a good day of practice. I just talked to the attendant at Twitley Branch campground and it looks like there will be vacancies plus there are 4 cabins for rent and a 25 room motel.
That sounds interesting. Might need to get over and check it out.
Where are the cabins Scott? I looked and didnt see em on the campground.
If we are not swapping Enid or doing something else, I'm in (still need permission tho)
Here's a link to the Pat Harrison site. they have the cabins and motel on the east side of the lake. Twitley Branch is the COE campground on the west side.Quote:

Might be interested in a mini one as well, not sure though but need to get over and see my daughter sometime soon anyways. NOT gonna make it a countable tourney though but ain't a thing in the world wrong with a get together and mini FJ.
That's what I was thinking DD. We just want to show our little jewel off and have a little get together.
Be a good look at it for maybe adding it to the schedule next year. Someone mentioned it being good but not having much chance of catching BIG fish, not sure that is completely accurate.
Looking at a fish from the side they look as big as the north MS fish but they don't have the thickness, guess it has to do with the forage base. But it is an easy lake to fish in my opinion, not much shore structure, stay close to the creeks until it gets HOT and then troll the flats. Just my HO.Quote:

Have an uncle that has bass fished it for a long time and killed em in the open water along creek ledges and stuff. Would not be surprised if the crappie wont be hanging along those same places.
Its a beautiful lake and the fishing is good.....what I like is you don't have to throw all those fish back that are 11 and 15/16 in. long.
The landings are in great shape with floating piers at each of them. We will probably be using Collinsville landing which is the nicest one. There's a good fish camp near the lake for us to eat at Fri. night unless y'all want to have a fish fry or something. There are nice parvillions if we wanted to do something like that.
I'll be there...

Well, one of the stooges has spoken. It would be nice to hear from the other 3.
BigBlue, there is a creek that runs from top to bottom and there is structure all up and down the creek. If you can put a hook in the water, you will catch fish. Heck, DD, Maj. and Tman might even catch fish there.

I think a mini is good, but don't want it to count neither. I got no problem with Okitibbe on the schedule for next year though. I just don't think we need to switch plans mid stream and start adding new lakes to the schedule this year. I would have rather swapped an Enid or a Sardis for the Buta date, but that's just me and would present a different set of problems for other folks.
But...whatever is OK with me.

If the fj comm. comes up with a replacement tourney I'll be at the one that will count for the championship. I hadn't heard of anything being swapped. Either way I'm gonna be fishing somewhere that weekend
If y'all want to substitute Enid or Sardis for the Butla tourney, that's okay with me. I hadn't seen any mention of it and that's why I made the Okatibbee suggestion. There will be no hard feelings on my part. I may just come on up to Enid or Sardis and fish with y'all. I'm gonna fish somewhere anyhow so pfffttttt!!!
ScottV I look forward to coming down there and pulling cranks with you guys but I think it's still a little early to get some serious cranking on.
If y'all want we can just plan on a fishing get together later this summer at Okatibbee. The FJ can be at Enid or Sardis on the 14th.

Well it don't look like we'll be having a tourney at Okatibbee on the 14th. I was just wanting to have a friendly get together, not add to the FJ schedule or replace an excisting tourney. Maybe we can do it on a later date. As far as the driving distance, I understand. That's why I haven't been fishing the FJ's. Barnett is only 1 1/2 hrs away but all the others are over 3 hrs away. And I understand why, that's where the best crappie fishing is and the majority of the fishermen also. So I'm not griping, I'm going fishing.
