anyone still use them? i still have a couple from the late 60s-early 70s and thought about digging them out for gill action. have a mitchell 308 and 408 still in really nice shape to pair up with them.

I have one: a 4.5' Eagle Claw spincast rod. My dad bought it for me when I was about twelve. I haven't fished with it in quite awhile. Maybe I should dust it off and give it a go this year.
It's too bad fiberglass fell out of favor. They're a little heavier than graphite, but they still make good rods. Fiberglass fly rods have made a little comeback. Maybe spinning rods can do the same.
even though quite whippy, i have landed some really nice smallmouth and channel cats, as well as some huge gills with these. for sure, heavier and not as sensitive also, but the memories that flood back when i pull those out are just unbelievable. maybe i will dust them off a bit and just put them away again.
There was a West Coast company called Kencor that sold a big variety of UL fiberglass rods. They went out of business, though.
I have landed some good channel cats on my Eagle Claw, as well. You can really "muscle" a fish with fiberglass.Quote:

I have two eagle claw featherlites in 6 and 1/2 foot length, they really are a good rod for throwing very light jigs and spins, since the tip is so whippy. also have a bps micro lite in yellow glass, same length, it has a heavier action but still a great rod or 20 bucks.
I too, grew up with a 202 in my hand, bet a Semi couldnt hold all the fish that reel caught, I personally love the old glass spinning rods that I have aquired over the years
I owned a solid fiberglass rod for many many years. It just hung in the barn collecting dust so a couple years ago I sawed off the rod from the handl and removed the eyes and use it for a tomato stake now.:rolleyes::D:D:D
I have 6 assorted fiberglass rods I re-wrapped for fishing shiners,...best rods you can use as they dont tear out the hooks.
Still fish a Diawa 5th ultralite spinning rod with shakespear real I bought in 1974. Have landed 4pm bass, big channel cats, lots of crappie and bream on it. Like it better that my graphite rod.
I loved those old Featherlites! I had a 6-1/2" UL paired up with a Mitchell 409 (yeah, I'm a lefty) and caught a TON of bluegill, crappie and trout with that rig.Quote:

i have the bps fiberglass ultra light fiberglass rod. it's ultra sensitve, and ive caught some nicer fish on it, though i use my catch more trout kit rod more..
Hey Tom, I just bought my girlfriend a 6.6 UL and I got myself the 7.6 Med Light I have 2 other Eagle Claws the UL 5'ers. The Featherlight's are a lot of fun to fish with.Quote:
