Put in at Lone Valley yesterday. Water was almost level with the parking lot. all the fish are either hiding in the bushes around the edges or hiding in cover 40ft. deep. The ones I caught deep were all shorts. Caught one 12+ casting in submerged bushes. There are so many of them (submerged bushes) hard toknow where to start and you get hung up lot. Water color wasn't bad.
Emerald Isle is open as well.
I put in at Emerald Isle Sat first time Ive been on the lake my son and I had 18 keepers between us.......we threw back 40 or more short fish and he lost a monster Crappie right at the boat. All we caught spider rigging with minnows......they were keying in on shad most were 10 feet deep in 25 feet of water.....we caught most close to the creek channels....when we were in the shad we were in the Crappie...

Thanks for the reports fellows.
I am going to try it this weekend , I hope. Darn rain, it just keeps raising the lake.
I am most concerned about the spawn. Wonder if it is a lose ?
Most fish I caught had eggs........I think they are already moving up in the brush.....I hope to get back down next weekend. They should still be fish on the flats close to the brush.........The fish fry we had tonight just got me started :)
Deadaim,
Pull up and say hi if you see me. I will be in a blue/grey Skeeter with a 150 Yamaha Vmax on it.
Likely fishing between Butler Creek and Site 1 ramp.
Good luck to you,
Will do Good luck to you.......
I went out today. put in at Emerald Ilse. water came 2 feet over night. water temp 61 . caught only 6 keepers all day. tough fishing
only 4 keepers water came up over 2 feet in one day. cold front gave em lock jaw.
Water temps were 64-65 when I was there Sat.........that cold rain must have brung down the temps.......
you can put in at Emerald Isle ok. I drove out to Lone Valley tonight and water is completely over the parking lot. Campground is closed. you can probably put a boat in off of the drive way just be careful. water has good color . water came up another foot last night more rain coming tonight. I am going out on Sunday i will give report.

That's a nice spotted bass you caught. They are fun. Also there are no black crappie in GRL. Maybe you found some male white crappie with their tuxes on. How deep were they?
X2 What 1fishmike said, not a small mouth bass wrong color. You caught a spotted bass also known as KY bass. Good luck and thanks for the report.
I will second CP's statement that there is a very small population of blacks in GRL. The ones that I have personally seen have come from the bluffs across from the state park. Good for you for getting out in all this high water and connecting with some fish. I am actually glad now that they are now SLOWLY pulling water so maybe the spawn will be a success. Frustrating for the fishermen but great for the fry.
Thanks for enlightening me. I have never caught one or even heard of anyone catching a black crappie from GRL. Thanks again.
The Big Fish at last years Crappie USA was a black that weighed 1.73 pounds.
oops thought it was a small mouth for sure (i'm not much of a bass fisherman) anyway i was fishing in that real deep cove back behind blue hole rd..i put in at emerald isle marina and its just a minute or so to the spot. i caught everything off of 1/8th jigs casting to the bank and letting it sink at an angle back to the boat basically just keeping my line tight.
