How's horseshoe doing with the latest weather/water?
Been wandering the same thing about horseshoe. I heard it had risen 2 ft and was muddy, not really sure though.

Went to village ceek (austell) today. U couldn't buy a bite except for the knats
Muddy and up a bit. I'm guessing fishin is gonna stink for a while
Tom
You heard right. Up about 2 ft. and muddy as the Mississippi river. Went Thursday only caught 6 crappie. Catching catfish by the cooler full.
Went Thursday just caught a few. Went back Friday and caught about 17. All were 1 1/2 to 2 lb. We started out in the trees and then moved to the docks. Caught a lot of dinks.
5 to 8 ft on the docks. About 4 ft in the trees
wat did u catch them on minnows or jigs if jigs wat color
Black and chartruese
think it will be worth anything over there this weekend?
I'm planning on going Friday. I'll let u know.
Many thanks AR HAWG
Hope to hear reports to, will be going down middle of next week myself. Good luck!
West yesterday afternoon mainly to run a boat motor been having some problems with. Fished a couple of hours. Managed to bring home just 6 crappie. They were some nice males though. Didn't do any pier fishing (water to high). Man I tell you what, I have never caught some many "dinks" around the trees. If I had to guess, probably caught between 50 and 60 fish in those 2 hours. A lot of 8 and 9 inch fish.
Water will have to come down some before you can fish a lot of the piers.
Does horseshoe have size limit? Can't remember. I know they have higher bag limit but unsure bout size.
No size limit. 50 is the limit there too.
Naw they don't have a size limit, I just don't keep em if they are under 10". My own preference.
Went today and just caught 6 or 7 keepers. Fished everywhere. the water looks a lot better just very slow.
Many thanks, wind supposed to be up and out of south tomorrow........probably will stay closer to home and try the shoe another day
Thanks for the report
Tom
Thanks for the update. So the water is fallen some? Last I heard it was 2' up.

Anybody trolling?
Nah. It's still up a couple of feet but its a lot clearer. You can fish anywhere now.
I did see several boats trolling. Not sure how they were doing though. I really never troll that lake. Just started trolling the Corp lakes in Ms a couple years ago with ol HammerHead.
You do any good trolling? Slow trolling with minners? Lake seems a little small for crankbaits.
I've caught quite a few fish slow trolling H'shoe, especially in the winter. I've caught them trolling cranks a time or two. Hard to beat those MS lakes.
How was the catchin over the weekend? Thinkin of headin over there
Hoping things are looking good, heading over Thursday myself. Wondering if (coming from memphis) there are any road closures between here and there
Can you trotline the shoe thought about triyng to catfish it
Went Sunday and the road is fine from Memphis. If you fish the docks its hard. With the water 2' high the docks are low to the water. I sat in the bottom of my boat to fish them. We talked to several people from the pads the the willows in the south end and it was the same story. Nobody catching anything but Thursday and Friday they caught 100's. Go figure. We found a mess in the docks 8-10' black and chartruce meat getter jigs.

When y'all are shooting docks, are you casting a jig and reeling it back, or bouncing the bottom, or what? Are you using a spinner?
Thanks,
WK
I like to long pole jig and bounce the bottom. Don't count out a dock sooter spin caster. To me its a little to much work
Went today, caught 1 measly catfish........otherwise I couldn't catch a cold
Hawgdawg,
Nice to meet ya and put a face to a name.
Billy, U mentioned u like to bounce bottom, do u just cast a far as possible, let it sink then jig it back to boat? Also, you mentioned darker the better, is that jig color?
Tom
Nice to meet you as well TBRN.....Keep at em...You will get em figured out. Ended up with 21 brim. Drounded a bunch of crickets today (had the wife with me). Just wanted her to catch some fish so we went after the brim. She had a blast!!
I believe Billy E is just jiggn around the poles on the piers. Droppn it right down beside pole, go to bottom, and work it up and down. Don't think he is doin much casting with the long pole.
Ok, thanks u guys for the tips. I'm gonna give its some time for the water to come down a bit and try it again. I will probably start at the piers next time then move out.Are there many bass theream sure looked good back in those lilly pads and flooded grass.....
Anyone go yesterday or today. I plan on going Friday.
I am going tomorrow and friday also. I will update how we do tomorrow when we are done.
Well it was an eventful trip for us to say the least. We had 7 guys for our annual fishing trip heading down to fish Thurs-Sunday.
Last week my right front u-joint decided to crap out on my dodge 4x4. I borrowed my dads "work" truck to haul the boat, charged the a/c up, replaced the sway bar bushings since they were shot and got ready to go. The day before we were leaving the a/c went out again, and it started squealing and sounded terrible. Looks like the idler pully is shot. No time to replace that, so I asked my buddy to drive instead.
We headed down to our horseshoe rental house on thursday at 4am. We got two miles from the rental house and BAM, the truck just died in mid travel on 131. We somehow were able to coast into the parking lot at the St Mary church on 131. So its 5:15AM, pitch black dark, and we are SOL. We checked everything out and decided the fuel pump was shot. Finally about 6:30 (after 30 other people passed us by) a nice guy stopped and helped. We loaded the boat to his truck and he dropped us at the rental house. We had no way to launch the boat, so we fished off the dock until about 2 when others showed up.
Finally got to fish Thurs afternoon and decided to try to bream first. They were hitting great over around happy jack with crickets. We caught about 50 nice gills between the 2 of us and about 10 cats as well.
Friday we slept in after staying up to late, and finally hit it around 11, back to the bream hole. Caught 10-12 nice gills and I landed a 6 pound cat on my ultralight with 4lb test line, that was fun. The plan was to shoot the docks that afternoon, but about 3pm the wind and thunder started rolling in and we decided to go back and wait it out. Good move there. Tied the boats to the dock (no slips just a long pier), and man did it get ROUGH! Short story is, it was pounding the boats, they were literally coming out of the water and taking on water from the swells. It got so dang rough it ripped a cleat off the bass tracker from being tied to the dock. It was banging the motor and trolling motors and we decided we had to get them off the water. Somehow I got them on the trailer after about 10 attempts with each boat. If any of yall were there around 4pm or later on friday, you know what it was like. Never seen the lake like that.
The wind never let up and we didnt even put the boats in the water saturday. We had fought that mess enough and the water was still white capping, just said heck with it. It just seemed doomed for us from the start.
Better luck next year Doh

Nice mess o bream....hear the catfishing has been hot for a few weeks now for those after cats.....
I was wondering who you used for a rental? Was it on the lake? I'm originally from Marion, so fished there often...but live a couple of hours away now and have often thought how it would be nice to find a place to rent on the lake there....Thanks.
