Better to bet above the dam right now instead of below..They are calling for record highs downstream.
Looks like we got more coming.
Yup.
They are letting out all that they can to keep a repeat of the Nashville flood from happening. I suspect the lake is going to get very big in the very near future.
Up here in Cincy our flood stage is 52ft and its getting to 56 plus and its all heading your way. We were there last week and the weather and fishing stunk big time but we still had a good time. Be safe!
I got 2 & 1/2 more weeks of fight'n this crap! Every river system we have around here has extra water in it. It's just a matter of time before something bad happens out here. One wrong move right now & you're in a corn field or parking lot. I'm gonna be ready for a break by the time I get off this darn Towboat! I am stressed out!!! :(
They'll start holding water in the lakes in a few days. It's gonna get BAD!!!
I heard from Dave Stewart, a guide on the lakes, that he had heard they plan to pretty well put the stopper in Friday.
What did it hit last year when they shut it down?
they started closing gates today according to the tva web site
We may break the record this year!
-One for the History Books - May 5th, 2010, Kentucky Lake is officially CLOSED to recreational traffic for the first time in history by U.S. Coast Guard due to extreme flooding and rainfall in the lakes area (Lake Barkley and Land Between the Lakes closed as well). The water levels rose 4ft in only 24hrs. Kentucky Lake peaked at 369.03' on Friday, May 7th at 2:00 p.m. The flooding missed the high-water mark set in May 1984 of 369.99'. The lakes held steady at 369'. It took just a week for the lakes to drop nine feet back down to near normal levels.
Plug is going in Friday, cfs dropping to 12,000 and lake level rising to 363.4...
wow, Ill bet when they put the plug in it will raise really fast!!! any ideas on how fast?
I have my boat in my dock, I guess I better get down and pull it out ,,
Here is the site I use for info.
TVA: Kentucky
explore ky lake site says corp and nws predicting it to reach 371'
Just looked at the water data and seen where Kentucky lake just raised 1 foot in 7 hours this evening. Hard to imagine how much water is flowing in, knowing how big that lake really is. As bad as the crappie fishing has been, I'm glad I got some fishing in when I did.
Copied from an update that Jigman eluded to:
A press release sent out Wednesday afternoon from the Land Between The Lakes states, "Tennessee Valley Authority and the Corps of Engineers are predicting the lake level for Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake to rise to 371 feet (12 feet over summer pool)." At 371', a new record would be set by one foot, according to TVA.
Discharge at Kentucky & Barkley Dams is virtually non-existent for Friday and Saturday. The gates at the dams will be shut off to help flood control on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.
A slew of fishing reports should come out today that will offer insight on the fishing conditions. Check out the Fishing section of this website to read the latest reports.
I was up there yesterday afternoon for about 2 hours. It looked to have jumped at least 10" in the 2 hours that we were there. The main lake looks like chocolate milk but there wasn't a whole lot of debris floating down yet. The debris will probably really get bad when they open the gates again.

The red line is this year, the black line is last year and the wide gray line is the operating guide.
The lake will hold 375', but that is the top of the gates and it will spill after that.
Newest forecast... 373.5
I think they put the plug back in.
3:30 p.m. Thursday Update: The lake conditions are rapidly changing. TVA now projects Kentucky Lake to reach 373.5' by Wednesday and will hold at that level for a couple of days. This is just 18 inches from the top of Kentucky Dam's gates. This is unprecedented and will surpass last year's near-record stage of 369'. The record is 369.99', and the highest the lake could get before spilling over the gates is 375'.
We got the word this afternoon. My flip'n camper & deck's gotta come out! :( I'm screwed!
Hey Terry. If you are on the boat and need help I am more than willing to lend a hand. I am sure some of the other fellas on here will help out to. Just let me know man.
I could help if you need some manpower. Just let me know.
Have 2 5/16 inch trailer hitch will travel. Let me know when I need to be there. My buddy Tommy next to you has to move his also.
Looks like a party at Terry's place.......................................minus terry!
I have a buddy that is gonna move the camper this weekend. My problem is the deck! I can probably take the lower platform off & move it pretty easy with a few guys. I just have to remove a few deck boards & unattach it from the main deck. The big deck is the problem!
I'm gonna get my son, his buddys, my nephews, & son-in-law (if they don't have to work too) to load & move all my cooking stuff & deck furniture this weekend. I'm gonna try to get them to move the little deck too. It would take 20 men to lift & move that main deck up the hill a few feet.
This crap always happens when I'm on the flip'n boat! I don't know what to do! :( I got 2 more weeks on the boat & by then the deck will be somewhere between the campground & New Orleans! May just have to get the boys to try & anchor it to the tree somehow & hope the waves don't bust it to pieces.
My wife is tore up! I get off on the 12th & she goes on vacation the 13th. We were gonna spend her vacation up there. She loves her deck. She was looking foreward to having a relax'n vacation! She needs & deserves 1 too!
This is driving me up the wall! I got enought to worry about out here right now without this crap hit'n me in the nose! :(
I give up! Doh
Thanks for all the offers guys! Really!
You have my number---use it!
I helped some of my neighbors at Moors last night until about 9:30 gettin campers pulled out. Late yesterday afternoon the campground heard the level possibly going to 375'. What a mess.
I also have a big deck with a metal awning on 1/2 of it. Last year I tied it off to the trees and it road the water out just fine. I have done the same thing this year. I sure hope it rides ok. Someone told me to take several planks off the floor so water can come up thru it. Last year there were a couple decks where the post were sunk in concrete and the water pulled them out of the ground.
I drove into campground about 5pm yesterday with no water on roadway and when I left the campground last night I had to drive thru water 6-8" deep. It is coming up fast.
Hey Terry,
Never give up when you got friends that care about you. I moved a building with plastic pipe for rollers. You can flip the deck over and drag it up the hill if you have to.I can help Sat. evening and Sunday if you need me. Heck, we could unscrew the whole thing and move it one piece at a time. I just cancelled a bunch of vacation and that sucks. You be careful out there.I would not be suprised if they shut you all down!Take care and be safe!
Camper is out & deck is anchored!Thumbs Up All is well!
Thanks everybody!
Oh BTW, things may be looking up. Can't comment on it yet but we may dodge a bullet!Hands Clapping
