I grew up in Hamburg and in the early years (30 yrs ago) they cooked armadillo at the annual Hamburg Armadillo Festival. I had one serving off the barbeque and it wasn't too bad. I don't believe they actually cook it at the festival anymore.
I have as well eaten beaver, took em to Lindsay's BBQ and had them cook em, I think we got back half of what we took em. ( I think they kept some)
Fried rattle snake, taste like chicken texture of fish.
But the strangest of all is one of them huge grass hoppers. I stuck it on a piece of wire and roasted it for a min, it was one of them ( Hey.. Hold My Beer!) thoughts.
To be honest it was pretty good... If you can imagine a combination of almonds and shrimp.. Will probably do it again.
Worked in South La. for about 30 years if it moved they would eat it did not matter they would take it and turn it in to something really really good to eat . short story bear with me had a inland drilling barge stacked in marshes near new orleans there was two of us on the rig and we were short of groceries partner was full Cajun asked if I wanted some coon here we were out in the marshes you could see for miles only marsh grass and canals what could any mamal possibly eat not a tree for 50 miles this redneck says this guy has lost his mind he says come on gets a piece small pipe about 4 ft long we get in small boat paddle over to to marsh he jumps out and says stay in my tracks I jump out and sink to my armpits he finally gets me out we continue him walking tall me wading and fighting the marsh eventually while I was trying to get out of a hole he walks up with a coon we get back to rig he cooks the thing you can not imagine how good it was that scenario was repeated over the years if it moved they could turn it in to some thing special.
noslab.
Coon is good if dressed properly (got to get those glands out). I knew an old man back in the early 80's that could cook the best coon around. Said he "practiced on possum during the depression"!
Tripe, chitterlings, chicken egg embryo's, but those were dares :D But I ate them!
Most memorable was minnows Thumbs Up I purchased $3 worth of minnows from a convienent store in Des Arc, well they didn't catch me anything so I had many a minnows left over. I was soooo mad  that I decided to deep fry them boogers and eat them. BADDD mistake!
They didn't taste so good! Be warned everyone! :p
We eat crappie eggs, pretty good, but strangest I guess is turtle, pretty good stewed!
I vote for Shimmy Shamrock. I have thought about doing that myself.
Chitlings was the worst I ever ate, a can of old smoked oysters is second worst.
I got another... I work with some guys from Laos. They built a hog trap at deer camp. They caught and killed several one day. While skinning them one sow was full of lil ones.... Yea on the grill they went, they weren't even fully developed. They said they looked like squirrels with a funny looking nose.
Alot of Hog oysters and alot of rooster flies and one blackbird.
When i was at school at ASU we went on a trip to Ecuador to help a small community with a foundation with several small business's in it.. While there we had guinea pig... It is very common down there and they have been eating them for thousands of years.. oddly it was very good.. They gut them and then stick them on a baseball bat shaped pole and season them and stick them on a bed of coals.. It was really neat and really tasty!!! Also ate BBQ goat down there and it was very good as well..
DANG.....Ya'll given them sippi boys some ammo!!!!!!! Don't be surprised...Doh
When I was in the Air Force, I got stationed in Turkey for a couple years. My friends and I would eat at the local restaurants several times a week. As you could imagine, after a few months of this, I had tried everything they had to offer, and I liked it all.
Well, me and some friends decided to rent a car and go on a road trip one time, I think we were castle hunting. There's a lot of castle ruins in Turkey and they're fun to investigate. We ended up at a restaurant far from home, and they had some different things on the menu, but no one there spoke a lick of english, so I just ordered something. When I got my dish, I didn't recognize what it was at all, it just looked like a big slab of meat. So, I ate almost all of it before I realized that I was eating lambs tongue, and was enjoying it. It's not the first time I've had lambs tongue, just the first time I liked it. My parents or grand parents use to get pickled lambs tongue and pigs feet when I was a young kid. I never really cared for either one.
One of our local churches sponsored a wild game cook out got to sample racoon, beaver, armadillo, possum, gator, emeu, coyote. I quit after the beaver.
Puff Fish in Japan. Very good, very dangerous, and Whale Meat which is excellent.
a old man that i fish with in ms.and i was in a old oxbow the other day when a hoot owl was on a limb in a cypress tree the old man said i wish i hadthat owl in a pot with some taters and carrots and a lot of onions that would be some good stew, i then ask what does a hoot owl taste like he stated " chicken hawk " enough said !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ruby Tuesday's (what I call) micro bisquits. [not recommended 100%] Never again. aj
Tounge is very common around the world... I have seen it in many different countries, just not very common in ours... Yall can eat the tounge off of the next deer yall kill if you want to!!! LOL sure there won't be many of us do that here in the great natural state!!!
People ate a lot of things they would not normally eat during the depression. My daddy spoke several times of eating black birds and blue jays. They were often prepared like mince-meat pies. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do to live. :)

That's it! 'Possum on the half shell. I never have. :/ But I would if I was hungry enough. :)
aj
Well, they're meatier than a squirrel. I'd bet they would taste good if not dried out. Never heard of that but I'm not beyond it if I was hungry. :)

A couple years ago I killed a bobcat. Some oldtimers told me it was good. Fried it up like deer meat. It was the worst thing I ever put in my mouth. I'll try just about anything once.
Alligater.....what else...this is Louisiana.....it taste like.....alligater.......I see more of them than snakes while out fishing.....can only be taken by commercial fishermen in season and you got to buy tags......check out "Swamp People" on TV (Direct TV channel 269)......they are the alligater hunters.......it is filmed around my fishing grounds....
Squirrel, Alligator, Buffalo, Armadillo, Rattlesnake, Rocky Mtn. Oysters, Snails, Crow (tasted musty), and Baloot (a lot of alcohol was involved).
Would eat all them again but the last two.
Also, during Survival training, grubs, ants, maggots, and other stuff I'd rather not think about.
Chitlins and they are nasty.
Thanks alot fellas, I just lost my appetite. Baloot !!! I hope a bunch of alcohol was involved.
