Has anybody had any luck with crappie on fort gibbson yet? I know the sandies are running up the river.
no report yet. none of my buddies are fishing it yet.
Last Saturday I recieved a report from Grover that he and Jonboat had caught several from midlake before the wind ran them to cover..hopefully the report from this lake will be getting hotter in the coming days
I was out Tues- and Weds. afternoon, and was fishing the shallows in Hickory Creek across from Taylor Ferry North. I caught two perch, and one small bass in about an hour and a half. I will admit i was using a minnow crankbait, but have had pretty good luck with it catching crappie before. The fish I caught hit about 3 feet off the bank in about 2 feet of water.
My Son and I fished the Toppers area this week from 7A.M. to noon, along the bank and we put up 69 crappie that were 10 to 13 in. long. They were in water that was about 6ft. deep, and they were out about 50 to 60 ft. from the bank. We where using min. and jigs.
Thanks for the updates guys. I usually fish the big O but the way fuel prices are I,m going to fish gibson more this year.
Yes
Wind, wind go away come back some other day.... My daughter has been chanting trying to help us out!
Go squeeze go!
Yes there is a 15 limit per day per fisherman. It took us 4days to catch the crappie I was talking about. So we could have kept 120.
ft gibson is about a week away from what i saw sunday. i had 10 keepers and a few throw backs. the females were loaded with eggs but not ready to release them yet.the wind was horrible i ran out of battery by 11 oclock had to run it on high the hole time.might fish it this weekend if the weather doesn't get bad.
so much for gibson turning on. Its going to be over twenty foot high or more in no time, with all this rain.
yes it is due to Grand dumping all their water cause all those high pollutin people cant get their green grass covered with water you know..gee wish they would make everything equal when it comes to high water levels..oh well it has already been a pretty good spring as far as enjoying my time on the water and catching CRAPPIE..and have the summer bite to look forward to..On Gibson those blacks get right back into the spawning brushpiles in sjhallow water when the temps get so hot you cant stay longer than noon from the heat..but you dont need to since you can get a limit long before that..
At 4:00 this morning it is almost up 8 feet. Coming up fast.
Looks like as of 7:00 this evening the lake is 11 feet high and rising.
Had a limit of 15 today fishing the 14 mile creek area. Not all brushpiles holding fish but caught them pretty good. Unlaoded at Seq. Bay at 8:05 and had my limit at 10:40..had 1 big female weighing 2.03 lb white crappie and out of the 15, 4 were white and 11 black species and they sure were beautiful in their speckled suits. fished until 3pm and caught 29 total keeper crappie, and about that many throwbacks. wish I had of had that fish Saturday at Eufaula, but that was a different lake and time..Most females still had some eggs but had somewhat spawned out. Colors were blk/chart super tubes and Slab Bandits in blue bayou shad color...tip here..if you hadnt tried the slab bandits we got from the CDC meeting your missing out on a really good bait..I have ordered 10 packages of them and have caught fish on all colors I ordered..the scent works
Caught my first crappie at 8:11 in Jackson Bay area, decided I wasn't going to keep anything under 12" today..Had 14 12" crappie or better at 11:40 when my wife called and said I needed to take her to the Dr. and we needed to be in Tulsa at 2pm..well I didnt get my 15 and threw the 14 back and rushed to meet her to drive her to Tulsa. water Temps were 66.8 when I started and at 11:30 had warmed to 68.2 and was climbing. All brushpiles were not holding fish and it didnt take but a second to tell if you were on 1 that did..Colors of choice today were blk/chart super tube and Blue/Pearl Slab Bandit..the Males were dressed in their suits and caught a few females busting with eggs..had alot of throwbacks also//when I threw them back I had 8 White Species Crappie and 6 Black Species Crappie and those blacks sure were beautiful.
Ranger what depth was you catching them at and how do you get to 14 mile creek?
Catching most of the crappie from brushpiles, but also caught a few casting cork and jig on pea gravel banks known to being used as spawning beds. Brushpiles in the 8' to 14' range worked best for me. Also caught quite a few black species crappie in known rock piles also used as spawning beds. Not saying you will not catch both white and black crappie in the same location which you will but the big blacks really like rock piles when spawning. 14 Mile Creek is the arm running on the east side of the Lodge going up to Wildwood Camping grounds.. Hope this helps.
Ok thanks alot
Hey ranger i see the crappie are making a comeback on gibson finally,,havn't crappie fished gibson in 2 years cause when we used to fish it all the time we use to kill em then for a couple years now you would go out and and it was all you could do to get about a half a limit and they were all toads 15 - 17 inch fish and no short fish just like they had no spawn at all,,,,,,,, what kind of rig u in i was out there bass fishin yesterday maybe you saw me i was in a black and wht Ranger 519vx

Red and White Ranger VX 188 Comanche with Yamaha 175 HPDI..was fishing Jackson early and left for 14 Mile Creek around 11 or so..They got off a good spawn last 2 years and catching alot of throwbacks
I would like to go with someone, I know zero about crappie fishing, I live just 3 blocks from Taylor Ferry North, will be out of school in a couple of weeks and will be able to fish some. I have lots of chores at home to do, but if I bring home some fish, I will get to go. Wives are funny like that. Just need someone to teach me the ropes. Just started fishing again after about a 10 year no fish period, I know how to fish ponds, but the lake is a different story. I was out yesterday afternoon after school 4:30 till 6:30 caught 1 small bass, 1 small sand bass, 3 small pearch, one smaller than lure. I need help.
nope i must have missed you by bout an hour i didn't go through jackson till bout 1:30 or so i haven't even thought about crappie fishin out there till i saw the board on Gibson THANKS ALOT now im gonna have to strip all the braid off my crappie poles
see you on the water!!!
Dats not a tree shaka dats a TREE BREAKA
Are they all spawned out yet? I finally have some time to go and I just hope it's not too late.
As of last week late they hadn't..caught some that had lost most of their eggs but some that were filled with eggs..Concentrate on main lake creeks and coves which warm last. The fish I caught late last week were in water depths of 2' to 10'. Water temps were in the mid 60's early and warming to the high 60's late.
Good Luck
Hey ranger what creeks or coves do you think will be good and do you think this rain will drive them back down?
does anybody want to give away some good crappie locations near Paradise Cove marina?
coves along the golf course, jackson bay area, mallard bay area, 14 mile creek area on the backside of the lodge has all been good and will continue to be unless we get flooded again..if so i think they will either spew their eggs or will absorb them..
Was wondering if anyone knew how high Gibson is and if and where would be a good spot to get into so fish this weekend!
Rose 15 feet in a day and a half. Ft Gibson Lake, OK ---- Tulsa District Recreation Information On this link you can find almost all lake info and levels
As of 9am the lake was 17.6 feet and rising. It rose 5 tenths from 530am till 9 am. As for fishing its anyones guess right now. They are supposee to start letting out over 75000 cft some time today. My buddy was camp below the dam yesterday and they made everyone move out. The park is going to be flooded today.
Ok thanks so the fishing ain't gonna be worth a dang this weekend never fails finally get a weekend off and it's either raining windy or flooded.
Kaw lake has a good reputation, and it is stable. keystone is not as good but stable also.
Now is a good time to fish flooded timber for channel cats they love the stuff. Sandies are running on the lake but good luck with all the boat traffic.i think im goig to set on the river bank and drown a shad or two
I just usually try to avoid public waters on holiday weekends in the summer.
