hooks
okay i'm about out of hooks for pouring jig heads. what brand do you guys like. i have been using eagle claw but i'm thinking about a different brand to try. gamagatsu? or maybe some of the colored hooks by eagle claw.i want something thats sharp and stout.

Kenny for the money and as fast at they are lost eagle claw 570 you cant go wrong..the 1/16 oz doit mold says to use #4's but I use #2's due to them being bigger and holding my Tenkiller Crappie better..To many pulling off of those lil hooks for me..just my 2 cents worth
-
that is why i was switching. those little hooks are hard for me to get out. but if i can use the #2 instead that is what i will do. never thought about that.thanks mark i have a bunch of # 2 hooks for my 1/8 oz jigs that i can use.
-
Sounds like ur fixed up then..works like a charm..and if you pour up more than you need i can always take some off ur hands..
-
i might just pour up a few this evening and give them a try. mark if you ever need any molds for sinkers or jigs i have a pretty good selection. your more than welcome to use. how many jig heads do you want? i'll fix you up buddie.

Since you asked oh about a 1000 might work for a few days...naw but thanks..hey 1 question what s minner..that something like a sardine
-
it's supposed be one of those live thing that goes on a hook that does look kinda like a sardine. thats how my neice says minnow for some reason. she even spells them that way. everytime i take her crappie she has to have her minners.

My last few packs of hooks I bought to cast in jigs were Matzuo 9064 Red Sickle Jig Hooks. I switched to these this season and have only lost one fish that was initially hooked. I also just got in some #2 hooks to try instead of #4. Really like those sickle hooks.

Can you fill in the ]those among us that are ignorant to sickle hooks? I heard about them briefly at the Longtown gathering, but when I ask around for them at stores, they try to tell me that I'm talking about circle hooks.

Hi smoky, I ordered the hooks in packs of 100 from Barlow's Tackle. Here is a link to follow. The link is to jig hooks, but you can buy other type of sickle hooks also. I think they are all made by Matzuo. I prefer the red colored hooks. I've paired them with slab buster jig bodies and been cleaning a lot of Crappie.

Here are a couple of threads about sickle hooks from the main forum. If you search the main forum there are many threads about the hooks.

Is that right, only 5.95 /100?
Thanx for the link and the education. I would like to try them out, but I don't want to start pouring my own jigs, and for live bait, I like to use snelled hooks.
sure wish there was some place I could buy some though.

Go to the Buiss. section on this site, Paul at Grousefly can make them for you. I usually get the bronze sickles and their just as good as the bling colored ones.

Sickle hooks are way over priced . If you ever want to do your own red hooks just get some chem dye used for metal layout . Dip them in hang them to dry. Don't know if you have noticed but the color comes off those hooks eventually anyway.
