my youngest daughter and i will be doing the farmer's market in town. not really to pay the bills, just spend some quality time together. if you can make the drive, i won't send you home empty handed. i could even put you on some crappie whiel you are here.

oh no. i got a rear tine cub cadet. i just used that to get around the fence. also my duaghter cannot handle the big un, so she likes to get out there and run that lil honda around.

Looks like you traded grass cutting for gardening! From the pics it looks like it takes up your whole back yard! LOL Sounds like you'll be well stocked for the market. And it's a good opportunity for the girls to learn about business operations...initial investment/labor/sales/profit! All that good stuff. Wish I like tomatos. I'd come buy from ya! Hope you still get to fish some!

my exact sentiments Scott, mo garden, less grass. we grew tomotillos one year and had them out the cazoo, get ready!!

i have 18 tomatillos plants. each one has no less than 50 blooms on them. and they are not evey 2 foot tall yet. i hear at the famer's market they sell like diamonds. hope so. how do you tell when one of these dudes gets ripe??

ontheline, our market is at the same place as the red river revel if you are familar with that location. it is downtown between the bridges just north of the shreveport times building. right where youree dumps into downtown shreveport. holler back if yoiu want more info like dates and times.

Doc, I know the area, just didn't know there was a farmers market there. Times and dates would be nice when they get it started and what she might have for sell.

Doc....thats a great looking garden....I love the "no grass to mow" feature....you got any purple hull peas in there...looks like some corn also....reminds me of when I was a kid and we grew everything we ate.....I spent many days plowing, weeding, sticking pole beans, etc......

It depends on how you plan to use them. I pick them ripe (before they change color), to slightly over-ripe (orange/red). The over-ripe ones are less bitter and more sweeter. The same holds true for the various chilies, bell peppers, jalopenos, etc. Again how you plan to use them.

tracker, i'm not sure we are talking about the same things. tomatillos are lemon sized green "tomatoes" that are used in salsa and mainly in salsa verde. they grow in a paper thin husk like thingy. i don't think these will ever turn from green. but i'm not sure of that.

For any one interested they have a Farmers Market in Greenwood,La at the city park on Saturday mornings starts at 8:00 A.M. This is just up the road east from the Flying J truck stop. The Redman should be there this year if the corn crop does good. Have a 1/8 acre of the G90 sweet corn and if the critters don't get it I will be there. Might have some green snap beans and some peppers also. The Tomatoes have all been spoken for as has the cucumbers. I am amazed at what a few veggies will bring and now thank my dad who taught me to garden.
