3+ Pound Crappie

I probably already know the answer to this but I would like to hear from you all.
I want a shownuff wall hanger! I catch alot of crappie, every week, every month, every year. I catch several a year over 2 lbs. I have always said when I hit over 3lbs he goin on the wall.
I would be willing to burn days, weeks, months fishing in waters with little success to try to catch that Hawg. So my question is: Where would you look for a monster?
I like to trot line flatheads on Lake Conway. I set up in and around the deepest parts of the lake, one day I caught a crappie on my line that was almost 24", I didn't weight it because I would have been sick due to catching it on a trot line not a pole.
The reason I tell you this is that when I caught this fish it was the first of April about 12ft on the bottom of the lake, The crappie were still shallow.

Grenada or Sardis in MS probably be the best that I know of.

Lake Conway has several 3lb fish caught a year. I intend on staying on lake Conway.

Mark Nimrod Lake off the list, I catch thousands every year and my biggest one for last year was 2lb 13 oz . This year about 2lb 4 oz. so far.

I had a buddy of mine go fishing on Beaverfork last Thursday and the guy he was with caught a 3.12lb crappie on a small crank. It measured at 18in. I know the first crappie I get thats over 3lb is going straight on the wall. Here's the pic of the crappie.

What I am asking is do you believe the monster crappie separate from the rest? If so what do they like? Where do you think they would be? As I previously stated I caught one trotlineing deep when the rest were spawning shallow?

Most of the time the real small and the big Crappie are not in the same spots. Why not the huge slabs, they could very well be like secretive bucks that grow to be wall hangers and get to live long enough to reach their potenial.;)

at cane creek they are pretty much all huge did you see that stringer on the big fish thread with six crappie weighing 18 pounds 9 ounces

In MS, I'd go Enid, Arkabutla, Grenada and in AR, I'd go Greeson or Conway.

I would stake out Jims table if I wanted to see a 3 pounder. I can't imagine a 3 on a hook.

Trotline crappie

Caught that one yesterday on my trotline on the bottom of the lake with a fingerling yellow bass, that's what I was talking about, everyone is catching spawing crappie and this dude is out in the deep water.
Its no monster but Larger than you would average most days.

I agree with Nimrod on secluded, they seem to become more like bigger LMB. I've adapted a walleye/LMB approach to fishing for them, fish big 'baits'. My favorite is a Zoom Superfluke Jr. or even Walleye Assassins, them big fish will POP those big baits. I've found they do spawn deeper than the majority and in an area where there aren't a lot of other spawners. I only wish I could fish the southern fish factories. Anybody want to trade a hunting trip here in KS for a crappie trip down south? Lotsa big deer and turkeys here, my son just came home with 4 turkeys they shot with bows, I'm gonna have turkey for dinner. Might have to go look for some Moral mushrooms.

If it werent for the $400 license to hunt up there, I'd say you have a date. Would love to bowhunt up there but afraid of the eviction notice I would get from my wife if I asked to spend another 4 bills on top of my lease here.

Millwood has to have plenty three pounders. I have seen a few over the years that came out of that lake.

No dought Grenada Lake in Mississippi. I fished last week there for the first time. UNBELIEVABLE. We had a bad storm on Monday so the fishing didn't get good till Friday. I caught 43 and over half were 2.25 or better. Three were 2.6 and two of the guys caught one 2.8. I fish Beaver all the time and ain't never seen nothing like Grenada. They catch over 3 pounders there in the summer when they aren't full of eggs. They catch a few 4 pounders every year.

TWENTY-FOUR INCHES??? Well...THAT wud 'getterdone' fersur. :) I have a 3:04 white on the wall and she looks beautiful. Maybe one day I will do it again. :D AJ
