Looking for a source for tin jig heads, barbed and ball. Anybody pouring tin ?
tin and lead is what I pour..not 100% tin
I am surprised that you would want to use Tin. They would have to be galvanized to hold up and the weight would be off that is for sure. I am sure you have a reason and I would like to hear it. Just out of curiosity. I have used some alloys with lead but not pure tin.

With tin you'll have to use a bigger head to get the weight. A 1/4 oz head in tin weighs about 1/16th if I'm not having a brain fart .
I bought a bunch of tin heads maybe 4 years ago and they are still sitting here. I just don't use them!

If your wanting tinheads where the dont weight the same as lead try using beads plastic or glass
It is common to use brass or nickel plated beads "pinned" to an aberdeen hook for steelhead jigs. The light weight allows for the current or checking your line to lift the offering in the water colomn. A 5/32" brass bead jig has a slower sink rate than a 1/64th oz. jig. I may have to tie a couple for fishing for SLABS!!
hey PA some of these work awesome for trout!!! In streams. Got the idea from steelhead guys
Depending on what size you really need you could always buy the tungsten beads which weigh a bit more than lead. However they do cost a good bit more. Just need some fly hooks for them too.

Yes. I make tin jigheads. I do have ball and barbed ball. The barbed ball are not on my website. Yes, they weigh what they say. I had to do a little trouble shooting on getting the weights right. The heads are a little larger. Average size head is 30% bigger. Bigger is better for visual feeding by fish. Also produces more disruption in water for fish lateral lines to pick up. I am staying busy suppling my stores. I have a customer that will buy 600 to 1000 a year and swears by the flash of the tin. He loses alot in tree tops underwater slow trolling. I cast the 1/8 barbed ball in a size 1 hook, 1/16 size 4 hook and 1/32 in size 6. I do have red, bronze and gold hooks.

Sorry for the delay in answering your questions guys, been fishing at Grenada Lake since last Wednesday. I want the alloy jigs so they have a slower fall, the few I have used were given to me by a friend. I'm not sure if they are tin/lead mix , but they have the same head size as a normal lead head jig just lighter and shiny.
sticksteer they sound like they are what Timmy Tom makes. Try some of his if that is what your looking for is same size just lighter his should fill that bill and yes they are shinny. That is where I got mine, now if I would just use them more I bet that you could use say a 1/16th size and have the fall rate of close to a 1/32 which I do use a lot of in the spring.
He makes nice Tin Heads!

Hi Timmy Tom,
The only think I would suggest is use Black Nichol Sickle hooks. I have got to the point I try my best to avoid Bronze due to the ease they rust. Just a suggestion though. I would consider more and even using them in Black Nichol Sickle hooks.

Well. I do have the original 1/8 , 1/16 and 1/32 molds. I'll have to weigh again. The 1/8 is 1/12 in tin. 1/16 is 1/20 or 1/24 and the 1/32 is 1/40 or 1/48. Skip. I have just started the gold hooks. I need to make a little more selection but it is all I can do to keep up. I have some equipment coming in 2 to 3 weeks to help with production. I could just add sickles to the website and maybe a couple stores. I know they are sharper but have not used them.

Timmy Tom you also get better hook ups with the Sickle I believe. More times the hook get in the roof of their mouths, not every time, but enough. Most say they lost less fish with them. I have been using them for about 5 years and just like the heck out of them. Some still want a regular bend, but I would say 95% of the guys say they want Sickles.
Now they still have a few quality control problems, but a lot less than they did just a few years ago. Use to have eyes not closed, but most now are right and a few with the barb in funny places, but not many of that either in a good while. Don't think a sharper hook exist for that price. I even ask for that brand when I get regular bend hooks.

Just buy some lead free solder (a 1 lb spool will make a lot of small jigs) and mold your own. Melts easily, casts great jigs, does NOT corrode (don't need to galvanize or even paint unless you want them colored), and jigs cast are 70% the weight of an equivalentl sized lead jig.
Thank you Skip for the great comment about my jigheads. But I need to come down there and watch you tie a few dozen so I can learn new techniques. I just try to make the jigheads the way, I would expect them to be if I bought them at a store. Black sickles my be the future in jigheads. I am still really big on red hooks myself.
