fluid bed?

ok need some advice. got my unpainted jigs in the mail and now looking to make a powder paint order. I see alot of you guys on here use a fluid bed and have been doing a little research on them. for those that use them, do they really make that big of a difference, or can a guy just dip them in the jar? any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I dip in the jar and have 0 drips or noses form.

I only like them for horse heads and glow paints.

i have been checking out vinyl and powder and i just dont want to have to base coat before i paint. trying to keep it simple stupid

You don't absolutely need one. I dip all mine even pony's and I've gotten it down pat. I won two fluid beds on an old ultralight fishing site and haven't used them yet, but I'm gonna get my air pump soon so I can run them.

The trouble with a fluid bed is everytime you want to change colors you have to empty the fluid bed (use a plastic funnel to get most of the paint back in the jar). Clean the fluid bed out with a dry cloth (you don't want any moisture in your painy and you don't want to mix any old color in your new color) I just fluff the paint in the jar with something like a small screwdriver, paint a couple of jigs and fluff some more. Once you get on to painting you can tell when you have to fluff the paint. The big thing is to keep the coat thin. If you are painting two or three colors; then coat the jig with the major color, then reheat the jig and apply the second and third color by tapping a paint brush with the new color over the spot you want to paint. Another way is to spread the second and third color on oppsite sides of a papper plate; so you can hold the jig flat with a pair of forceps and just barely touch the jig to the paint, rotate jig and touch the third color and reheat with your heat source. Like anything it takes some playing around to see what you like.

Here is a thread from another forum that is good on fluid beds. I wish that we could have it on our site as a sticky but that is for the future. The guy has a great picture essay on the bed plus alot of tips. Some of you have saw this before some it will be brand new. I build one and it is good just use a good pump and found that brown paper bags work the best. Y'all enjoy Fluid Bed - Ohio Game Fishing Community

He sells extra cups so you dont have to clean the cups out, just put the lid back on it and put it up..

When the fluid bed comes in nice is if your going to paint 30 or 40 jigs the same color. The fluid bed keeps the paint fluffed and you can paint jigs one after the other as fast as you can heat them.

I have 3 diff fluid beds sitting around that I made…
All in the belief that I made the prior one wrong.*
Words of advice, take care of your paint!
Also, if u make your own, use a threaded PVC system. Distance from pressure is key, especially if u can control the pressure.*
