Have a lake nearby that is pretty clear...3-4' minimum, not sure on a max as I haven't fished it much, but they can be very finicky fish. What color jigs would you start throwing at them?

I would try some small 1/64 buggy looking in black and brown. For a backup I would try all white or all chartruse.

Microspoons makes a mini spoon in black that i find is hard to beat for the gills and redears. I tip with a nibble when the bite slows down. We've caught and released over 200 gills in a day using them near docks and weedlines. Got these at ky lake last week.

Peacock with a short red tail! Look up Crazy Angler's "Brim Buster" I think is what it's called. Dark brown/dark green with copper flash.
A hares ear jig would be another one to try.
something flashy, but not bright.

The absolute best lure we have used is a dark colored T-BONE jig in 1/64 oz. The best color for us is usually a black jig with a touch of chartreuse in the tail. All of the T-BONE jigs are loaded with flash/sparkle and with a little of Ed Moe's Bait Butter scent added it is an outstanding fish producer. It is deadly on Bluegills and crappie too. We use 10 ft ultralight poles and walk the banks, sticking the jigs next to brush and/or dropping them in nests. The fish really nail the little scent covered jigs! My little boy has now done away with the worms and corks, and only uses this technique. He says it is a whole lot more fun than staring at a bobber! It doesn't seem to matter what the water clarity is, the black/chartreuse jigs always put more fish in the basket than other things we try.
I fish a few extremely clear lakes and my favorite jig/bait combo is by far a 1/64 or 1/80 oz purple jig, tipped with 1 black Berkley Gulp Alive Fishfry (the small ones, about 1/4 inch plus tail), suspended under a clear bobber on
2 pound clear line, or tipped with 1/4 - 3/4 of an Eagle Claw Crappie Bait in the natural earthworm color.
slabsrus....I was wondering if I was the only person that LOVES purple in clear water?!? I tip with nibbles or beemoth and fish on!
Sorry for the late report. We were fishing in 8ft in the kenlake marina area. Got permission from Mike and Kathy to fish a few docks and the back area there. Tipped the spoons with waxworms that day as i had some left from ice season up here. Bobber set about 5 ft down. Caught a lot more smaller ones too. Coming back down next week. Gonna fish Ledbetter for some crappies. Never as crowded as Jonathon creek but not nearly the number of fish either.Quote:
