Getting started
Ok guys, I am an avid crappie fisherman and love to catch on jigs. Got a new born on the way so my time on water is limited but time at home is endless. Could someone give me a list of the essentials for tying 1/16 and smaller jigs. I would use mostly hair and feathers, this seems to be what i use most of. any help would be appreciated.
Also if anyone has some materials and tools lying around they want to get rid of please send me a message.

Well here is the first problem with this forum stuck inside of another. We may be getting lots of these. Are we ready for a sticky yet?
-
Yes just read the sticky thread at the top of this board and that should help a good bit.

Have fun with this new hobby. At the top of the jig tying forum, as others have said, is a wealth of information on basic materials to get started as well as some very good jig tying videos. The longest journey starts with just that first step. You have done that. Now have fun. Be sure you get a ceramic bobbin and other tools when possible. I also recommend flat waxed nylon thread.

All good advice so far. Whichever tool you buy, buy the best you can afford. Most of the hand tools aren't very much, and a few bucks more will get you one that will probably cause less frustration. Ship's recommendation on the bobbin is a good example. $4 for a cheap one that you will hate and cause you grief, or $8 for a better one with ceramic beads in both ends that will last about forever. Vises too. Save a few extra bucks, do your homework, and make an educated choice. Dont let a few extra dollars steer you from a good vise, you won't regret it. Welcome to the addiction, you're among friends.
