Just as soon as it warms a little more and can get the boat re-rigged.
count me in !
Count me in I live in Lakeview and cannot waite untill the water warms up!
A lot going on this week. Had planned to be out on the water before now. Looks like next week, now. I feel like the crappie should be in the brush piles and waiting for the temp to get right and then start moving into the shallows, but who knows. Will post anything i hear about. One friend was catching a few around their boat dock. Good fishing!
what is a good temp that they like?
I've heard they spawn at 59.5 water temp. Not surface temp. Quoting Ronnie Capps on this.
This is just my opinion, and of course, it will change from one place to another, but i like the followung numbers: Crappie move out of the winter channels when the air temp stays above 45 for a few days. Will either suspend or be around structure [depending on bait fish] until the water temp gets from 52 to 58 and then move to the shallows, awaiting 58 to 64 water temp, for spawning in 2 to 12 ft deep. At this time they can be found and feeding heavily anywhere from the channel edge and up thru the brush or structure and on up to the bank. Note. These are all aprx numbers and will vary. Good fishing1
I am still finding my way around on here, but every crappie fisherman i have ever known likes to see photos of big slabs. I will attempt to post a photo of a 3lb-7oz slab caught the other day, by my son, a firefighter from back in miss.Attachment 57752
Thumbs Up Monster
Hey Peckerwood - Those are some numbers to live by. I like 62. And those 2 in the picture are something to be proud of

Hey guys,i live over by western grove.Have fished out of diamond city and tucker some.Mostly drive up to stockton lake to fish.Would enjoy meeting up with you guys sometime and give it a try.
Nice looking slab. Thanks for the info ill put it to good use.
Thanks billy e, for the responce. I think you fish some of the northwestern lakes of miss, in particular sards. The boys back there have been loading the boat, this last two months. The rivers feeding these four corp lakes are good choices for big crappie feeding up for the spawn and looking for warmer water. The fish in the photo was caught straight lining, in a deep 10 ft hole and on the bottom of the river and in moving water. However, the overall ticket for any of these lakes has been spider rigging. GOOD FISHING!
Sure arky, welcome aboard. We will be posting anything we come across.
What are you calling lower Bull Shoals? I have mostly fished out of Pontiac. Have not had the best of luck crappie fishing that area, have caught some nice size fish but not the numbers I would like. I fished the 125 area once and did pretty good.
Hey crappiehead, thanks for the reply. The lower end refers to the area down stream or nearest to bull shoals dam. I must confess, bull can be tough as compared to the muddier lakes back home in north miss. The earlier spring crappie bite is usually better up your way, i suppose because the water is dingier and warms quicker and the fish can spawn shallower. Please let us know how the fishing is in your area. I am hoping after this now cold weather, fishing should get better. Good fishing!
Hey just talked to a buddy of mine and they caught 22 slabs this morning, starting to look up.
Hey Peckerwood. We were going to put in last Saturday in the river at Sardis (Wyatts) but it was flowing like the MS river. We went around to Pats bluff and fished til the wind blew us off. I have a post "Wind and Rain Saturday" of a few we caught. And yes we were spider rigging
Billy E
I sent you a pm . Let me know if you got it.
I wouldn't have even thought about going there ODH:D, but since you brought it up. The young man looks like a fine young gentleman, but that fish he's holding up is a monster that I wouldn't mind holding up for a picture myselfThumbs Up
I like this ...right in my back yard! Nice to hear there is some fellow bull shoals fishermen active on the forum. Im out there at least weekly but its a tough gig right now other then the walleye bite. Unless you got a dock
Tom tell me about fishing bull shoals , rod n reel or spearfishing ? I'm in oklahoma and want wally's send me your ph . Number or a PM
Hey ozarkadver, great news. Did you gather any information on what was working and where?
Hey billy e, know exactly where you are talking about. Put in there many times over the years. That can be great water this time of the year, as the big females are looking for warmer water, but that area has had a lot of rain recently. Sounds like you made the right adjustment and caught fish. I will check your mentioned post. My sons tell me this past week the same bite [river running into lake] except on coldwater river above arkubutla lake, was on until the cooler weather moved in. Then they fished sardis and found them backed off the shallows and inlet weater, and on any kinf of structure, rock piles or brush between the banks and deeper channels. Thanks for post and please keep checking in.
Hey tom, same right back to you. I think we can all help each other by sharing info gathered while on the water. I plan to get out there tomorrow for the first time in a while. Will check in laater.
Well, i finally got out on the lake today. Put in at bull shoals dam ramp. Noticed immediately, water pump preasure gauge not registering. Third season on new yamaha 150 four stroke and this happens. Managed to fish some with only trolling motor. No crappie, only white bass up in a creek close to ramp. Did see aprx 2 dozen walleys sitting right on the bottom, in 15 ft of water right in the back of this creek. Could not interest them with anything. What dos a miss boy know about catching walleys?! Will have boat in shop mon and then back on the lake chasing slabs. Beautifull day, little wind, hope everone else caught lots of fish.
sorry, been off line for a few months, health and hot weather. Fished fri mrng, caught some good walleye, kentuckies and big bull brim. Dragging night crawlers 29 ft over main lake points. Brim females full of bright red eggs, should be moving in to shallower water. Good fishing.
ramp report. Bull shoals lake, the fairview ramp in jimmies creek is now above water and useable. Ample parking.
Nice Big Un and Info thanks
bull shoals, lower end, ramp at bs marina is now accessible . Ramp at dam sight should be ok by this week end. I will be hitting the brush piles and deeper stumps mon mrng. Will report results. Good fishing!
no crappie to report. Did catch limit of real big brim last fri but went back mon after water drop of 2ft and no fish. Don`t know what happened. Were catching mostly males with a few females so i figured they were spawning. Most all caught in one spot. Useing live worms down 20 ft on bottom near drop off. Will try again asap.
Listen bro! they aint spawning if thats your brain tesssseeeerrr! good luck tho! keep your cooler full!
hey coolerfull, if they aint spawning then what are those red blooded eggs coming out of the females and that white stuff from the males and their tailes are all red from making spawning beds. Anytime you can catch 100 big giles from one spot during a full moon, it is a good chance you are in the middle of a spawn. Seriously, the water temp is right and within that 6 day before and after a full moon if you can find them they will be in probably the last spawn of the season. Good fishing and thanks for your reply to my post.
hey all, found the brim! Had moved to deeper water and scattered. Spawn appears to be over for the most part. Been catching flatheads while brim fishing so plan to use pond perch and fish for catfish next time out. Worked several brush piles yesterday looking for crappie. No luck. Anyone else with any information on bull please post............... Good fishing.
Man I've got to get back over to bull shoals, bought my first boat when I lived there and have missed it bad since I've moved away :(
Can't believe this thread got resurrected again.
Hey blacklandlure, come back whenever you can. The lake is just as clear and beautifull as ever. I am trying to find the crappie bite, now. Will be posting results. The clear and deep waters of bull makes finding a pattern pretty hard at times. Any mri [most recent info] is certainly appreciated.
Good fishing!
Peckerwood try trolling crankbait, they work very well here on Greers.
