post spawn fishing ??
I have a few questions.
1. how many of you stop crappie fishing after the spawn, and who fishes them all year?
2. for those of you who stop fishing crappie, What do you fish for?
3. for those of you who catch crappie all year, what seems to be the best method, I have been doing alot of reading and it seems like spiderigging is the way to go.
4. I haven't done much long lineing, or pulling crank baits, is this effective after the spawn?? what baits to use??
From what I'm seeing the bigger fish have spawned out already and the smaller females are on the beds now. I have found a few bigger fish just off the weeds in water about 1-2' deeper. but they have moved again, are they transitioning back to the deeper water??? Thanks for your input. Joe

Long lining will put em in the boat all year, just may need to slow down a litlle bit in the winter. It works better in the summer than spider riggin in my opinion. Its hard to keep minners alive sometime, but not jigs, they are always fresh and wiggly!

I tend to chase other fish, mostly go to the ICW and Lagoon. When the sun gets high and hot I pull up on a sand bar and go fer a swim and explore some of the islands. Do occasionally chase the specs all year, as well as bream, bass, catfish, shellcrackers, whatever I feel like chasin when I get up and also depending on what time I get up. I am not too prejudice as to what I am fishing for. Just enjoy being out and seeing the sights.

Normally start grouper fishing after March winds quit howling, since grouper is closed will try again to either longline troll or spider rig(haven't done well with either) got all the stuff to do both and the price is right.--shu

youve gotta fish them yearround to learn them

I fished year round for crappie last year for the first time. I pretty much just long-lined em and did pretty well with all things considered. In fact, I did better in post spawn and fall than in both of the past two springs. It just makes sense to cover as much water as possible.
I do occasionally bass fish, but that is mostly to satisfy my friends who abhor crappie fishing.

I stop after the spawn. I get out the bowfishing rig and head to the wekiva or Alexander. Sometimes chase stripers on the river then get ready for archery in Illinois on November;)

My name is Stu......................and Im a CRAPPIE ADDICT.
Yes I will fish for them 375 days a year if given the time, money, and as long as the Mrs dosent miss me around the house (thats good until at least hell freezes over)
I target the little guys but dont mind a bit if the occasional greenie finds my bait during the summer.
Just because I target them dosent mean I can find them, and usually settle for a sunburn on a regular basis.
I longline for I am lazy and need 30 baits out to feel as if I am surrounding them, thus increasing my ability to stay awake, and catch the occasional really lost little guy :)
I am a sucker for punishment Thumbs Up

I'm like stu...year around with a little gill and shellie action in between. In the summer I GO EARLY and home by 9:30 or 10AM. The weather's always good and the water's calm. Spme of my best days are the middle of the summer!

I only fish for specks if I am fishing. I have caught specks every month for the past 2 years. If you see me fishing it is always the smae way. LONG lining bettle spins usually tiped with minnows or shrimp or sometimes gulp products ie shrimp or the gulp fry work well. I will short line a few poles close to the boat also and a few with bullet weights ahead of my swivels this gets them down closer to the boat. I did catch 1 in the pads last year. B

Catch em all year spider rigging. Gonna do it in about an hour!

Once the males are off the beds and the water temp is in the high 70 or 80's, I'm done. The heat and the fact that the fish are stressed from the spawn just isn't fun for me. I would really like to fish in the fall but between football (I officate HS football) and the fact that my wife has become a deer hunting fanatic, I don't have time. Also, after being in Iraq for 14 months, I got a "HOney-Do" list until I start drawing Social Security---which no dodut will be gone by the time I reach that age!

Thanks for the great info> i think i am going to have to learn to long line this year. I have a friend coming on Monday and we are going to give it a try. I will keep everyone posted on the results.

I would fish em all year, BUT !
After the spawn, I can't find one ! ! ! !
AND, I ain't sittin out there all day just to "maybe" catch one ! !
Also, I live about ten blocks from the Indian River, = use your imagination ....... :)
Plus, I own a flats boat that runs in 5" of water ! ! !
(It'll run dry for a few yards, WFO) :) :)

Spider rigging I can go in towards the vegetation go out towards deep structure all i do is change depths and maybe put a dual minnow rig on. other than that the wind determines where i will be.

I fish for everythin whatever I feel thats what it is. As long as I can get on the water if I am catching a boat full of cats I am happy.
