What are yall using to support the shaft of your trolling motor when it is in the stowed position? The head of the motor is out there just kinda floppin around. Seems like I saw some sort of support somewhere to fix that but I can't remember where.

Nothing...Haven't noticed any floppin either.
Some use a ram mount.
haven't used any support on my motor. It does flop around a little, but nothing to worry about. There is nothing in the head of the unit to really worry about. Everything that doesn't need to move is mounted with rubber to keep shock down.
Who is that Jeepster fella? And who is that Tlow fella? Dang newbies are just taking over this joint.
Ram makes a mount for it...prolly $40 or so. Or you could gin one up with a pvc and rubber chair leg cover. Heck, I got a PVC one you could have that'll work. Even on my boat at full tilt in rough water, it will bounce and flex a little, but as long as the foot is locked into the base, it ain't going to where.
Wannabe...
I use a velcro rod stow strap, screwed it to the deck and just wrap it around the shaft. It holds is securely down. Also solves the accidental deployment problem.
Premature deployment can be a problem
A friend made me a U-fork welded on threaded rod stock so I drilled a hole and attached it to the deck to support the tm head whenever the tm is in the stowed position. I used tyrap ties to hold short pieces of a swim noodle to the fork to cushion it. Looks OK and does a good job.;)
I've got the velcro strap on the boat already. I guess I need to commence to making some sort of support. I like WB's idea but I will probably use a little stronger material like stainless steel maybe.
I really dont think there is a need for the support, I havent had any problem there. The strap cinches it down pretty tight tho.
I know several folks who use the head supports but I've watched mine both running down the road and on the lake in rough water & don't see any reason for one. 54" shaft.
Hey guys, I feel like it needs some support because I didnt like the stress it put on the base mounted to the front of my boat. Now it's steady as a rock. I have made several of these and they have all been a little different because of going on different style boats. Most popular is with an an aluminum plate screwed to the rim of the boat with a tiedown attached. See photo. You guys can make this or I can. oopps, it's sideways....

I just finished installing my terrova and am making a support for it now will start a thread tonight with picks of how I made it
This is what I use for mine. Trust me, it ain't going no where.:D
I have Hi-Techs and I replaced the bolt that holds the stand to the base with an I bolt I wrap a bungee around the Shaft and secure to the I bolt It takes some of the shake out.
E-Z Poleholder is making a shaft holder. Give him a shout.
I like that EZ. I think it needs some kind of support.
Tlow go ahead and make 2 of em, I want the second one.
You want aluminum or stainless?
uh - oh. Should I ask about premature deployment?
I run mine like Bigger 'cept I use a ball end tarp bungie stuck thru the front cleat, up and over the shaft and back down to the cleat. Just enough downward pull to keep it from bouncing. After the pre-mature deployment about two years ago I decided it might need a little something to keep it in place. Worked good, so far.
Minn kota makes a support for that motor. PM me.
