Sounds like we're gonna be without our ace Wainwright this year,it hurts when you lose a picher of his calibur let's pray Duncan can work his magic and resurect a has been or develop a wanna-be to fill the number 5 spot.....this is about as bad as it gets and spring games haven't started yet:(

You don't really expect this kind of injury only 1 week into spring training. Going to be hard to replace a Cy Young caliber, 20 game winner with a #5 starter. Hope you're right bugman and Duncan can work his magic again.

What you all think of them not getting Albert signed to a new deal? Next winter could be crazy...... but then again, so is a $300M contract.
Duncan is a genius! Between he and Tony they will figure something out, they ALWAYS do. As for Albert, worth every single penny of 300 mil. In fact if A-rod got 272 mil, Albert should get 400.
All i know is that i'm sick of hearing it,they offered a contract that was more than generous and Albert turned it down i think he's a bit greedy and should have more respect for the Cardinal fans than to have this Bs hangin over our heads as well as being a distraction for the team the entire year.....we were the St Louis Cardinals before Pujols and we will be long after he decides to become a free agent or sign.
Perhaps Shelby will be a blessing in disguise, TL says he is comming to form quicker than what he thought. To all those that think AP is worth 30 mil for 10 years need to consider his age, I think they should sign 30 mil year for 7 years, puts him 38. Ripe old age body can start breaking down, no matter what the mental state his, body has to agree. Leave it to DD and TL they will pull another trick out of their hat, it is early Spring training.
I agree and thats basically what they offered him,a person would think that would be good enough to get a deal done......i'd hate to see them rush Shelby we can look back and see that a rush job usually ends in disaster(Ankiel,jimenez,Smith)there are a few older guys out there that might fill a #5 spot,Millwood and Bonderman but it looks like they'll try to fill from within,Mcclellen has the potential to be a good starter,we'll have to wait and see what they come up with.
Ok, my post was mostly in jest about the 400 million. BUT, if he does become a free agent, and I believe it when he says he wants to stay a Card, SOMEBODY will offer him 30 million a year. I totally agree 10 years is a long time, even for a player the caliber of Albert. Hopefully he will come to his senses and realize 7 years is more realistic for both parties.None of us are privvy to the actual happenings of the talks but I'd bet they reach an agreement.
Heard the news yesterday what a shame for Wainwright, we will miss him this year. As far as AP I sure would hate to see him leave the Cardinals, but as Bugman said we got along without him in the past and we will in the future. We shall see how this plays out.

Bad deal for sure. Jigflip if your not a fan thats fine, but those of us that have the cardinals disease can assure you its almost as bad as fishing fever. Cardinal baseball is a lifestyle in my family. Everyone in my imediate family and I mean everyone watches every game they are home for and most DVR the ones they cant. Of coarse the radio is on when in the car or truck. I go into a depression every fall when the last game is played. Sad maybe, but true.

Feel bad for you cards fans and I hope everything works out. I took a traveling baseball team to a Cardinals game and they treated us like royality, even thou we were there from KC and were looking to whoop some St. Louis and ILL 18 and under teams. The way they treated us gave me a great measure of respect for the baseball intelligence of the St. Louis area fans and Cardinal's organization. The fact that Wainwright is hurt would still make him a #2 pitcher on our KC team:)
As long as Joe Walmart owns the Royals Bill that won't happen. Ned Yost is already begging off 2011, saying in 2012 is when the talent will emerge. What a load of crap. How 'bout Alex Gordon aka "the next George Brett"? What a flop. People always criticize the Yanks and BoSox for spending so much money on players and to a point thats true. However, what they spend on is TALENT. They get those players because they have a winning tradition. PLAYERS want to play for those teams. The Royals could have offered 200 million to any of the free agents this year and not landed a one; not anyone that wanted to win anyway. Even Zack (I gotta get my mind right)Greinke could see that. Don, not sure we can blame Dayton Moore (the GM) cause I'm sure he's doing the best he can with a limited budget. That being said, I think the BIGGEST mistake he's made so far was hiring Trey Hillman to manage the Royals. He came from the Braves who have Terry Pendleton, a Bobby Cox under-study, who would love to manage, and he passed him by. If you recall Hillmans line-ups would have players in positions they NEVER played before. Is it a wonder then they could not hit the right cut-off man, commit a score of errors? That stuff needs to be settled in spring training; who plays where, NOT during the season. Hillman set them back a few years no question. (IMO)Quote:

GRB, my all time favorite Royals story involves Dennis Leonard. The White sox had a player named Richie Allen who was famous for hitting monster home runs. Players said when the ball met his bat it was a sound like no other. Anyway, Leonard serves one up and Allen crushes it. Leonard never even turned around. After the inning was over on the way back to the dugout, Leonard asked Freddie Patek "MAN! How far did that thing go?" And Patek replied "Hal tried to catch it and got killed by a car on I-70".Rofl
That is classic stuff! I have 2 memories from Royals stadium that stand out like no others, 1) Royals vs Rangers, don't remember the year - prolly 78 or 79, Darrell Porter slides hard into second base and the Rangers 2nd baseman (Maury Wills son, I can't recall his name) says something to him and, man o man, the brawl was on, benches empty, players piled up everywhere..... unreal, we were sitting in RF GA, and the whole stadium came unglued like I've never seen, 2) guy named Greg Luzinski, I think he also played for the White Sox, hits an absolute monster shot, OVER the left field general admission seats into the concession area behind.... the longest homer I ever saw. And I still remember Al Hrabosky when he was there, that guy was a trip and could he ever work the fans into a frenzy. Loved when the Yankees came to town, Reggie Jackson in right field, the fans were absolutely brutal, I remember Reggie several times turning around and flipping the bird...... he was a Royal killer too, he always knocked a couple out of the park when they were in town. Fun stuff.

It was a big deal when Ozzie signed the first 3 million dollar contract and it don't seem like it was that many years ago,now were talkin 30 million per year.....can you imagine how much that would be per inning,pitch etc,wow.

The price tag on these players has gotten it to where an average family can't take their kids to see a ballgame anymore,everything from the tickets to a bottle of water has gotten out of hand and with these primodonna(sp) players demanding more things will get worse instead of better.No human being is worth 30 mill a year to play 162 games of baseball but unfortunatly thats the state of the game today and as soon as Albert signs a contract for 30 some other "superstar" will be demanding 35 its an ugly cycle that has priced the average family out of the game.On a brighter note the cards are on mlb network thursday at noon,be fun to see a game.
I agree bugman, prices are off the charts, i had received 7 free tickets from my company, took my family, remember still i had free tickets and i spent a ton of money. 7 cheeseburgers @ 6.50 each, 5 orders of fries @4.00 each, 5 cardinal commerative cups @$4.50, ea 4 beers @8.00 apeice, not to mention 5 icecream bars @ 3.00 each and a few other snacks in there for about another 20.00. Now these free tickets cost me $154.50 plus about $75.00 in gas round trip. So a "free ticket day" ended up costing about 225.00. It's hard to enjoy the game knowing that your taking it up the kazoo everytime. If I would have had to buy the tickets add another 150-200 dollars...Its almost impossible to enjoy at taht price
I go to Springfield where the minor leaguers work their butts off. Sit out on the grass in the outfield. I also carry a bottle of water in so I don't have to pay 3.00 for one. Eat at the Steak and Shake across the street either before or after. We have as good a time as we would at Busch.
