Usually the corp lake crappie will not fit in those checkers. That's been my experience at least...
Mine too
Yep....Most Mississippi crappie will not fit in the Frabil EZ checker ( it too narrow and the fishes nose will not hit the end) . The new checker that B'n'M has out will work though.
Thanks for the quick replies! I fish mainly arkabutla so thats not good then:( what do yall use??
bps has one, it is green in color and it will hold them nader fish
the green one i am talking about is what i use but the one G is talking about (bnM) will work too.
When they are big at Butla don't need a measurin stick
you think Sportsman's Warehouse carries those? I need to check out the reopening of that store anyways:)
Just left sportsmans they don't have the b&m.
the B&M checker is availble at Bass Pro shops in Memphis
Bp and sportsmens whare house has the B&m checker that will measure butla fish.
game warden told me that the only good way to measure a fish was with a golden rule.....he told me those plastic things you had a picture of on here were not accurate at all.....
I have a tournament ruler like the men in green use.
Got the BnM measure at Bas Pro.
Game Wardens use a Golden Rule so I use one also. That way we are measuring with the same method
The Pank BnM one is a good un. As far as the golden rule vs the others if the fish ain't 12 1/4 or better I throw them them back.
I use the golden rule because thats what ranger rick is gonna use and you dont have to second guess.
Bass Pro has the BnM Crappie Saver, can you order on-line or purchase from Memphis store. Sportsman Warehouse in Southaven will have them too. Neat little toy that measures, estimates weight and age class, and also let's you safely deflate the air bladder of a fish pulled from deep water. The idea came from Ronnie Capps, he told me a story about catching non keeper crappie on Percy Priest in 40ft of water. Because they were under 10" they were required by law to throw the fish back. Instead of killing a bunch of fish and letting them float on the surface to die because there air bladders had expanded. Ronnie popped the air bladders so the fish would live, and they did. The problem was holding this little slimy critters between his knees and fizzing the air bladder with a 2" #8 hypodermic needle. Thus the idea for a tool that would hold the fish while you pop them so they can live. Cool idea from the true Crappie Jedi Ronnie Capps.
B'n'M SlabMaster Crappie Saver
Grizzly Jig has them too 800-305-9866.
B'n'M all the way. It is one of the best checkers I have every had due to the fact that it has more features than just checking the lenght. Well worth the money!
I have seen the new BnM but have not used one. I use a Golden Rule, the big one.
I can't believe ya'll are being so rude to DonDon by not including him in your conversation.
Here ya go DD.
A golden rule and the other items mentioned are measuring devices used to check the length of Crappie. You see on some lakes, there is a minimum length limit and the fish have to be a minimum length before they can be kept. Of course, this is all elementary for someone at your present level of skill, but I just didn't want you to be left out of the know.
You're welcome.
Wannabe...
DD's measuring device..............wait for it.....
They got eyes aint theyThumbs Up
Thanks for the feedback guys, I think I'm gonna check out the BnM.. Thanks again fellas!!!
Hi there !!
I can only recommend my B'n'M Slabmaster Crappie Saver if you are wanting a "checker" that will measure all size crappie and much more. It can be bought from the B'n'M Poles website Grizzly Jig Co. etc.
Please check it out and let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Good Fishn!!

We had a very tough year given the historic drought in this particular area. Days when we brought home 20's and 30's were the highlights. Moved to many different locations just trying to stay under some moving birds. Lots of hard work for sure !!
Ronnie
I'm bout to hook this boat up and go get supper!!
Later,
Ronnie
Every game warden I have seen has used a Golden Rule.
Golden rule takes time. You can drop a Grenada sized crappie in the BnM and in 2 seconds your done.
This is what he used.
Bass Pro Shops Folding Ruler
The Golden Rule is a good measuring device. I have used it as well. It just will not contain the fish like the B'n'M Slabmaster Crappie Saver among many other things that the "saver" has to offer. Lets face it 12 inches is 12 inches no matter the ruler as long it has been manufactured with precision tooling measurements. Anyway if its that close there shouldn't be any question anyway. Let em live !
Good Fishn!
Ronnie Capps
That boy knows more about catching crappie on Barnett than I do. He and Steve still hold the CM record for 7 fish on Barnett.
Hey there !!!
Just want to say thanks so much for all the compliments. If I can help anywhere just shout. Grizzly Jig has those and can get one out to you quick.
Good Fishn !!
