It is about a 15 mile drive from the public ramp on hwy 68, jonathon creek to the wildcat ramp at Blood River. That should be a much easier trip than by water. As to which is best, sorr I can't help there as I am a rank beginner on kentucky.

I have fished both areas extensively for years. Both Jonathan Creek and Blood River are great for crappie fishing, and, as such, are two of the prime areas that attract springtime crappie fishermen on Ky Lake. In fact, you can just figure that either area will be packed with fishermen on any decent spring day. If I had to pick one area over the other, I'm not sure which it would be. Blood River is a bit larger and has more areas of deep water than Jonathan. Both have a lot of added fish attractors like stake beds and brushpiles, etc. Both have decent spawning banks and brush that gets flooded in the spring. So, for me, at least it's hard to say one is better than the other. I suppose I would pick Blood River simply because, as I said, it has a little bit more acreage than Jonathan. I think it would strictly be a fisherman's preference....and that you couldn't go wrong on either in the spring. That said, I would add that sometimes I pick Blood River over Jonathan depending on the direction of the wind and how hard it's blowing. I seem to be able to find more areas out of the wing (usually) in Blood River. But again, that's my opinion
I agree with KYfishman. I guide and they are both great places for sure. But like KY said, Blood can be better when it comes to windy days. Sometimes on Jonathan when the wind is cranking the only place out of the wind is along the US 68 causeway/bridge where Blood has more cuts to get away from it.

Everybody come on down to Blood. It'll just be a big ol' party.
Maybe we can all walk boat to boat and visit with one another. :D
It always boggles my mind how big these two lakes are and everybody wants to fish the same brush pile.
Thanks for the information kyfishman. quackstackr i am coming down with two of my brothers and i dont know about the economy there but im sure that the resort and bait shops would think differently about the roughly 1500 dollars we will spend
Between lodging bait and dinning out twice a day.
Come on down, fatfish1. We will be glad to have you and your brothers visit us in Kentucky. I fish in several states around this great country of ours and have always been treated with respect and courtesy. We in Kentucky can do no less. I have friends who work in the Tourism industry here around KY and Barkley Lakes, so I know how much it means to Kentucky to share our lakes with visitors.
I could care less where anyone fishes. I just find it funny with all of the surface acres of the two lakes that everyone wants to drown their minnows in the same 2 to 3 places.
I've got plenty of places to fish to get away from the crowd.
Yeah, if you mention KY Lake in Indiana, or Illinois, people always think of Jonathan Creek.
But KY Lake is 180 miles long, and goes up to almost 3 miles wide at some points.
I like to stay far away from the famous coves/ bays, they are always packed with fisherman.
I also try to fish on weekdays if I can to avoid some of the crowds.
Jonathan Creek, Big Sandy, and Blood River are good, but they have a lot of people in them.
I fish many miles from those places in both the KY and the TN portions of KY Lake.
I agree that there are plenty of other spots to fish. You can go to any other bay and find crappie with way less people. As a matter of fact I make it a point to do that most of the time to find new spots and go against the grain. I guess I am a little crazy like that but I like to hunt out new spots and don't care for the crowds. Nothing against you fishing in Blood River or anything. Just what I like to do. We call it "hunting out the no namer bays"! It is fun! There are ALOT of crappie in that lake and they don't all get together and decide to head to Blood River or Jonathan Creek at a certain time of the year. They do their thing in whatever area that they are in.:)
LOL !!! .... Quackr, if you have so many places to fish to get away from the crowd, I'd think you would want people to go to those other "2 to 3 places". You live there, so you know the place & can fish it more often than these other folks. They may only get a few chances to come to the lake, so naturally they want to have a productive trip. With these creeks/coves being the biggest, it's only natural that they're going to draw the biggest crowds .... not to mention that they're promoted, advertised, and talked about more than most of the others.

[QUOTE=Kentucky Lake;1426979]Yeah, if you mention KY Lake in Indiana, or Illinois, people always think of Jonathan Creek.
I've fished Kentucky Lake twenty some times over the last 14 years and have never fished Jonathan Creek or Blood River. Never needed to! This lake has alot of water & alot of good crappie in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just wish I lived closer!!!!!
Don't mind Quackr, he just like stirring the pot. He fishes everywhere and does quite well. I also fish BR and although I don't mind everyone and their brother fishing there it makes for terrible parking. I live about 7 miles from Wildcat and when spring hits the air, finding a parking spot is what gets to me. And some people really chap my hide when they drive their own vehicle down to meet someone else in their boat and they park their car in a boat parking spot. AAARRRRGGGG, come on guys be a little more considerate. It sucks to have to drive twice that or better to find another place to put in because of the lack of parking space. I too try to seek out the lone bays that most people pass up, but having to drive so far and then the long boat ride isn't fun especially on those windy days. That being said, I hope everyone catches fish this spring. Come on up or down to the area and spend lots of money to help the local economy.
dkb23 is 110% correct.
mepperson makes a good point too. You guys bring a comfortable pair of shoes because the hike from where you have to park to the boat ramp at Wildcat Creek is going to be a long one the first week of April.
Enjoy your stay and try not to swamp one another.
I understand about not being crowded in fact you probly have never seen 50 boats in a two acre area in early summer on lake mich. when the jumbo perch starts. That being said i have fished all over several different states and dont like the crowds my self. I am just trying to map the area so we are not coming down there blind i have no problem trailering my boat an hour each day to find fish! we are staying at johnathon creek it is just a starting point. come on up to indiana quack i would be happy to put you on some perch our hotels marina and bait shops could use the business you could even tie to my boat. lol
From my first trip on Saturday, I can imagine that the parking is a real problem in April.

It will be bad the first weekend in April (Saturday April 2nd) Rush. On top of all the regular fishermen the Crappie USA tournament is going on. You'll have to be waiting for the gate to open at Wildcat to get a parking spot. I keep a camper over at Water Edge across from Wildcat. I can be there by myself launching while Wildcat has a line waiting to back in. Costs me a little but it is nice. And I admit I usually fish the LBL in late March and April to get away from the crowd. You catch a good fish in Blood in early April and before you know its like the Indians circling the wagon train. I keep waiting for an arrow to cross the bow! LOL But hey, it is still fishing that we all love or we wouldn't be on here. Things could be worse. :)
Thanks old guide is that a week long tourney and do they spread out for from that area as far as launching is concerned.?
Fatfish its just a one day tourney, the tourney is out of Paris, TN. They can trailer wherever they want from there though.
Actually Pab they are running the spring tournament out of Barkley State Park. Something different this year. Then the Crappie USA Classic is this fall on Kentucky Lake and it will be held out of Paris Landing. I like the Paris Landing Marina for weigh-in's. Plenty of parking and pretty much a straight shot down 280/119/121 from Blood. But Barkley is good too. And I do like to see the site move around so it gives other people the chance to weigh in closer to where they fish. I would expect them to go back towards the north end, Kentucky Dam or the Moors one of these days. It ha been a few years since they weighed in up there.
And Pad is right Fatfish. There is a seminar the night before but the day of the tournament you go to whatever ramp you want to use to put in. You just can't fish until 0630 hrs. And you can't fish past 1500 hrs. and be in the line to weigh in by 1600 hrs. So for the guys who want to fish the Blood area most use Wildcat or the Cobb to launch. Some go towards the LBL but the bulk fish by spider rigging the old Blood River channel from the mouth back in towards crappie hollow. Depending on where they like to fish.
