G3 has wood decks
You can't go wrong with Epress and Yamaha, had an Express with Yamaha 90 for 7 years best set up I have ever had.
mikeg
Xpress with Yamaha! i had a 17' with a 90 for a long time. Its not a Ranger but i really liked it and you cant stop a Yamaha!!
Xpress
I'd say G3 I had a 1652 with a 40 best boat I ever owned. I got an express now and well I wish i still had my g3!
I have a G3 stick with a 40 hp Yamaha. Bought new in Dec 06, not had a problem with boat or motor. Nice to fish in. The only thing I would change is the open storage under the seats. Lost one life jacket but that was my fault for not securing it in. Xpress has a nice boat as well. Price shop and go from there!
I really like that Express hull, I wanted one but they wouldn't sell just the boat and trailer. So I now have a 16' Custom Craft tunnel from Parrieville and I am very please with it. Not near as fancy but it gets the job done.
have you checked out war eagle?
Triton makes an excellent aluminum boat also......toss up for me between the express and Triton....
Top of page had a promo for G3 with a $750 rebate....worth looking into this offer.

Express.....I have been very happy with my express....My Yamaha 90hp is awesome and fires everytime without a problem. Just make sure you get a good trolling motor with the package...I have a 17ft camo express and when I bought it I didnt notice the 40lb trolling motor...I just upgraded to a 72lb...It moves now...also my express came with an all aluminum trailer...NO RUST...I happen to know the owner at Bayou Outdoors if you need any help.
I like my G3, 17 feet long, runs like a champ, and fishes good with 3 people in it.
I love my xpress. I've had it for almost 6 years and the hull is strong. The only problems I had with my motor was not my fault but the US government. Ethanol in gas.
I have a 08 Xpress 18' cc w/ a 90 yammy. It's a great boat, great setup, and there's not an aluminum boat sold that gets outta the hole like an xpress. I'de also look at the Cajun Specials, if you can find one. I had a 14' Cajun Special w/ a 30 yammy, loved that little boat. It was as tuff as nails and ran like a champ. I would have kept it but the family got to big for a 14' boat.
I bought a G3 in 2003 with a 40hp yamaha. I have 2 boys that fish it all the time and if it will hold up to them it's got to be a good boat
I'm boat shopping also...Triton has stopped making aluminum boats...G3 and Tracker have wood....Alumacraft has rivets...War Eagle(great boat but pricey)....I think I'm leaning towards Xpress XP170SS with spray liner and 60 Merc 4 stroke Bigfoot......I've talked to several dealers and H&M(Crowley) has the best prices around.....boat and trailer only can be purchasedThumbs Up
I have a 2004 xpress she has been road hard and put up weat alot. Shes 17' with a 90 yamaha. Every thing that has gone wrong was my fault! The factory prop did
not plane the boat well. I put the same pitch and dia. prop with some cup in it inproved the ride and i can run at a lower rpm planed out and save alot of gas! as stated 55 pt or higher trolling motor. Lots of luck with what you get and my you fill it with slabs!!!!!!!!!
I've had both and both are great boats.but the 2 boats I had were both 17.5' with 90 yamaha's on them.so I cant say much about the boats your looking at!!
good luck with your choice!!
Go with the Xpress! I purchased one back in June and love it. I got the 18SS with a 150 Yamaha Vmax with 4 blade prop. Also got power steering. Have not found one thing that I dislike about the boat. It is very stable with 3 big boys in it too!Attachment 55371
there is no perfect boat,,i wish there were,,,i have g3 and its been very lucky..i have owned a bunch of boats and if it aint lucky i sell it...go with the best deal and the one with the best storage,,,but in the end,,no matter what the boat,,,if you dont catch fish..you wont be happy...unless you like to ski.....lol
The perfect boat for south La. would have to be a Transformer. That way it could change to anything from a pirogue to 24 footer on a seconds notice. One can dream or listen to the grandsons.

Hey Marty....read up on that Bigfoot, that lower unt is mostly made for lugging like pontoons and heavy slower pushes. I've been researching motors too, and didn't realize that until lately. Not sure if that fits your criteria.
Anyway, I've been playing with motor upgrades too. Currently have an Alweld 1548 with custom decks and bench, with 25yam elec start/tiller, has pull start for backup, one battery for all including trolling motor. I tell ya its a great low maint rig for mostly one man fishing like me, its almost 6yrs old now. I can do it all, load with pirogues, hunt, fish, shallow, logs, etc and not sweat the scratches.
But the new motor bug has struck, and unless I get the 15" transom built up to 20", the 40hp elec tiller non-TnT choices are slim. Everything is a compromise, and this will be my first 4stroke when it happens. I certainly have enjoyed eyeing all the different new outboards at Larto/Saline, man you can see them all running in one day and talk to owners LOL. Can't do that anywhere else!
Yeah Mark, I went check out Hanko's awhile back..His son is the one who suggested the "Bigfoot"....larger gear case and prop shaft...certainly would handle more abuse from the areas I fish...I will look into it further though.I'll tell you what guys, that Mercury 4-stroke is awesome! Very Quiet and burns hardly nothing!
Express or Triton aluminum, I have a 17'6" Triton with a 90 Merc. Very good boat and durable. But my crappie boat is a 15'3" Tidecraft Crappie fiberglass boat with stick steering and a 50 Nissan outboard. Probably the best cranking and running outboard I have ever owned.
check out excel boats . com also excel on facebook i have the 1860 viper they will put any brand motor you want on it. it is one tuff boat with good looks.
