lol wear em out buddy.....free material. I got enough squirrel tails to last me for mths...
free thats the way i look at it to lol
I pick up anything it's dad where I live we find all kinds of interesting critters Chinese pheasant, quail coyotes Fox deer cows skunks badgers you'll find all these on my highway. I slammed on my brakes many time especially when I see a nice rooster pheasant Lane in there. I love to gets skunks if they are not to smelly.
Snake i was thinking skunk would be a good fur for tying jigs but how do you get rid of the smell + how do ya keep from getting smelly yourself
i see coons hear all the time soon as i find a fresh one its on my list to lol. if i could find the birds like you do id be in hog heaven lol. see skunks all the time to but that smell has kept me away.
Got more than a few dead critters, just make sure to carry surgical gloves, a few garbage bags and some clippers and sharp knives. In the summer I'll mostly just take squirrel tails as that usually all that's left of it,
Fur is prime this time of year, so the tails are really good. If I didn't weigh 75000lbs and 70'long I'd be coming home with loads of buckets for bamboo and tails by the score. Passed a fresh red fox, a big one, just last week. Of course, nowhere to pull off.
Sounds like you guys need a bumper sticker that reads "I brake for roadkill".
i went out in my back yard today looking for squirrels
When was coonhunting our dogs would get hit by a skunk from time to time , We always just gave them a bath in tomato juice to get rid of the smell !
Our old mutt Max got hosed one night in the backyard years ago. I bought quarts and quarts of tomato juice to bathe the dog, and Pop and I afterward 'cause we smelled like the darn thing after the dog's bath.
Kinda worked on us but didn't do much on the dog. Tried the skunk soap. Didn't do much either, he was still sleeping in the garage and had by this time been nicknamed "Pepé Le Pew". We were heading out of town and left the dog at a friends house for the week as planned prior to this fiasco.
Well short of the story is this. They finally got the smell out of him... and their secret? Powdered Douche. No lie. They bought a few packets and mixed up a bath with that stuff in it and repeated a couple times.
I honestly don't know how anyone could stop and grab a skunk on the road. Every time I encounter one I can't wait to get the heck away from it. I can't imagine purposely getting closer to that stink so I can pick it up and put it IN my car!
like everyone says, tomato juice I tell you one thing hang a skunk on your front porch you will not have to worry about anybody . Yes the for is excellent for fly tying or jig tying if you get a chance to get some of that for you will like it. Beautiful action in the water.
Here is what I do with roadkill.Attachment 54390
Snake, to bad you are not closer to So. Il. Our skunk population is up over a 100% this year, Dead skunks everywhere you look.
we have a lot of skunk here. This is the ideal country for them yours. You see about for five or six dead on the highway when it warms up a bit. They will be out they like to come into the barn where we feed fish heads to the cat's to take the fish heads or carcasses away they usually do not bother you. Matter fact we've cleaned a lot of fish with them standing right beside you. They will not bother you unless they get frightened, but they are beautiful little animals, especially the babies they follow the mother around in our yard. We have a lot of raccoons that come also. I think the raccoons in the skunks get into it now and then is they are fighting over fish. Oh occasional coyote may try to sneak in, but they usually are not after the fish. They're usually after the house cats.
now that really looks delicious. It's been a long time since I've had him roasted possum little bit of cornbread with that board at a be great. Nothing like good old victuals. We usually do not ever hear about this anymore you know, been a good old Hill boy. Yes, I do not have possums where I live now they are down in the Valley we called the Valley West coast of Oregon , where all the city folks live.
Just a warning, here in Indiana if a warden catches you picking up something out of season--your going to get a ticket. Also if its in season you better have the right license. I know a guy who was camping out; on his way home he stopped to pick up a muskrat. This was in the late fall and he had a hunting lience. A warden happened to see him and pulled him over. No problem right/ He should the warden his hunting license, "That's nice the warden said, but I need to see a trapping license." You guess it. The guy got a sitation and the warden took the muskrat!!
I try to get a possum once a year if it's a fresh kill. Don't pass them up Beautiful hair. If you can get them this time of year they are the best as they have alot of guard hair that is translusid. Also it is very easy to dye.
As far as getting rid of the smell of a skunk try Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. My Labs get hit in the fall and spring on a regular basis. Thats what I have found that works the best. Alot better than Tomato Juice and a lot cheaper.
Redman
Got to admit my Lab must have a skunk for a buddy. They make a point of meeting up most every night and he makes sure to come to the back door in the morning to let me know. He's always very proud.
got a gray squirrel today more free material lol.
I always keep a pair of side cutters in the truck just for a "roadkill deal"
