i dont but they look awesome.....
I was hoping you would respond. You are looking at Nor Vise and fish salt water. The Nor Vise makes the best tube fly attachment on the market. My opinion. If you get to tying them you are liable to get hooked big time. I just sold my HMH tube vise and now I wish I had kept it. Great looking flies and now there is a way you can lose the hook and keep the fly. I still may do some small ones for bluegill to see how they work.
Jig do you have some used vises???? im thinking Jason said you may....did you get a PM from me about a week ago??
I do not have used vises, sold them all on E-Bay. E-Bay is a good place to look for used vises. I did not get the PM.
Can you get small tubes for bluegill and crappie to tie on? Never paid much attention to them as I thought it was a salt water thing.
That's the problem. All of the books are written for salt water and it was first used for the larger trout species and of course popular salt water. I tied a bunch and sent them to my nephew because he travels to a bunch of foreign countries to fly fish and is getting into fly fishing salt water. Yes you can get them small enough for gills. The tubes are from Q Tips. You can buy Q Tips at Wal Mart, Walgreens as well as other drug stores. Do not get the white ones as all I have seen are paper. The plastic ones are what you want and they come in pink, blue and green. The plastic ones are hollow so you can get the mandrel through the center. They are super cheap. I can tie some up if anyone is interested and post pics. I kept a rinky dink mandrel and I think it will work in the vise I have. This is one area where you really do need a true rotary vise.
Sounds interesting jigtosser.I have been checking into the mandrel that can be attached to a regular tying vice.
Do not and I mean DO NOT buy a cheap adapter as you will hate it from the first time you use it until it hits the trash can. The starting point is HMH tube fly adapter. If you cannot afford a lot get the started but if you can swing it get the premium,

len cool link/..
Thank you for posting that link. Interesting stuff there.
My first attempt at tying a couple of crappie tube fly's without a hook.I like the idea of being able to change hook size at any time on this type of fly.

Len those look fantastic. What vise are you using?
nice ties len.....how are they weighted down? i like the pink one...keepem coming.....my nor vice itch is coming back.
These jigs would be great for spider rigging.. They would pull true in the water.
Len one of the things you can do is put the lead eyes on and this will allow the eyes to always be upside down and you put the hook riding up. Now you have a tube fly that will go through the water like a jig with the 90 deg bend. Also with that bead in the front you can have a jig that will fall straight down and have a fantastic vertical jig. Be sure and post more of you patterns. Hopefully this will get a new trend going among the jig tiers.
One of the lakes that I fish is very clear and the go to color is Fl. Chart./Yellow/ and white so I thought this crappie tube fly might be interesting. Can't see it in the pictutre but in front of the hook receiving tube I used Palmered flash chenille.

good stuff len...im ready to jump on board this train.
I just started tying tube flies. I've had a hard time finding the plastic Q-tips. Most of the ones I see are paper, even at Wal-mart. I made a mandrel out of a piece of wire I had around the house. It's nothing fancy, but if you want to give tube flies a try, you don't have to spend a lot of money.
Here are my most successful attempts so far, can't wait to spider rig these:
Marabou Tube Flies
If Wal Mart does not have the Q Tips try Wal Greens or one of the other major drug stores.
BTW those are some good looking tubes. Be sure and let us know how well they work.
Still playing with the concept of a crappie tube fly plus spinner!

I was wondering how you might use a spinner on a tube fly! Cool! We're breaking new ground fellas!

You are really getting the tube fly down. Those are great looking. Be sure and let us know how well they work.
They are fun to tie, once found materail to tie them down to to fit a size 16 fly hook. Not gonna do any more of those I can tell you. I liked them because you can add 2-3 flies in a row and give it an articluated effects in the water and make it bigger just in case the fish want a bigger presentation.
Another material to try are the sticks out of Push Ups pop sickles, ice cream things. Old pen tubes work well too. At one time I saw a really long flexible rod that was only 1/16 or a little smaller with a thin hole through it but I have never been able to find it since. I think it was some kind of wiring sleeve but not sure.
If you find flexible enough tubing with a big enough inside diameter for the flies they will slip onto barbless jig heads.
very cool idea!
Still adding to my collection of tube flies to try after "ICE OUT"! Trying to keep overall length around 1-1/4". This particular one I palmered a neck hackle feather and a guinea feather. The large size cone head is painted brass so hardly any weight to these jigs. The next ones I am going to try lead wrap for a little weight.
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1.../Jigs002-1.jpg
Are those coneheads for the jigs?
These two make 16 so far.Looking forward to spring here to try them out.

Be sure and keep us posted on how well they work.
All very nice looking jigs!!
There is now a thread on how to make a tube fly mandrel.
Has anyone had a chance to try these tube flies out. How did they perform? How did you rig them, dropshot-tyle?
