Move to a clear lake. LOL LOL No just kidding . Slow down and fish tight to cover slowly with bigger baits in bright or dark colors. A lively bait might help. Fish in muddy water tend to feed shallower also.

Longline troll with dark colored Southern Pro grubs!;) I believe the biggest problem we're having here right now is our lakes are too clear!

Don,t be discouraged with the water at Frierison, remember it stays muddy. If it cleared up the fish would probaly go into shock!

How deep is the lake on average?

levee side in around 20ft give or take a few. it also has a narrow creek run around 10ft then the rest of it is around 5 to 8ft great for flatheads i got a 31 pounder out of there a few years ago just cant get on them crappie very good

Anything that will shake, rattle and roll...
I know the lake but haven't fished in years b/c of the muddy water and at times you can track a coon acoss it.
For crappie to start I think I would pick the beetle spin with a the lg. blade,2in. curly tail either orange/white or red/char.,1/32 jig head, crappie nib and a spray on scent.
Have you ever caught any of the marble eyes in the lake???

I looked at the aerial view of the lake and it even shows the shade to be MUDDY! However, I will offer these tips for you.
This time of year I would SLOW troll the deeper water that looks to be toward the south end by the dam. Look for the dropoffs coming into the levee area where they probably dredged the dirt to build the levee. Running multiple poles(spider rigging) can sure make the difference here. I would definitely try using a 1/16 oz. head and maybe a black/chart. GLOW body on cloudy or overcast days and maybe an orange/chart. glow body on brighter days. Your "chart.glow tails" will make the difference in this type of water.
I would work the creek channels that pour into the levee dug runs as well. If you can find the "points" where this creek channel and the levee dug channels are, you will hit the gold mine! I would fish these hard this time of year.
I've never been to the lake but I am curious as to whether it is muddy from top to bottom? Remember, some lake will muddy at top due to constant runoff but the bottom or deeper water will be somewhat clearer. If this is the case you might get away with lightening the color up somewhat. If its not the case, the darker colors should prevail. Also, don't be afraid to try live bait on those jig heads without the body, it is a very deadly tactic at times.
Doyle Hudson from Midsouth Tackle leaves very close by to the lake. If you visit him at their manufacturing site, I bet he can offer some more tips as well. He knows his stuff when it comes to catching crappie!
I hope this helps.

ok here it is fish in muddy water will be holding very tight to brush or vertical structure use your graphto determine where the best structure is located pink is a good color to start with try to match the color with the degree of muddy water also try chartreuse 1 32nd oz good luck i hope this helps you out

Hey slab - Take Midsouth Mans advice, I know I will. And the next time your at Midsouth jigs on the far wall of the new colors there is a dark red metalflake thats new this year. pick up a bag. Dont forget the day is not wasted if the bite is not at Frierson, load up and go to Walcott.
