Hello,
I am still experiencing, and was wondering how you all double wrap the chenille. I have tried tying it in, wrapping to the head, tye it in, then rewrap and whip finish. Is this the proper way, or is there another way?
Thanks
Heath

I'm not a great jig tier (only a doz or so under my belt), but I am a proficient fly tyer. On a collard jig, tie in just behind the collar. Wrap to the hook bend, then double back and wrap over your original wraps of chenille and the hook collar, all the way to the head. This gives a nice, smooth wrap even with the collar.
ok, i'll give that a shot I have been tieing in the length of the shank and then wrapping back to the head.
Thanks
On ball heads you tie it the same way as fishinbub said, just start behind the head.
I do it the same as fishinbub, although I do make one wrap of thread around the chenille at the bottom before wrapping back up. The other way is to buy larger chenille, which can give you the same bulk with less material.
Thanks Guys
I do it just like I do a single wrap, but do it 2 times before I finish.

Skip, can you elaborate on your method. I have watched several you tube vids, and see where they tie in by the shank, then wrap towards the head, the majority show tieing it in behind the head but then tie towards the hook, then wrap( single wrap, back towards the head) and finish.
Tie in just behind the head. Wrap towards the shank, wrap back to the head, and secure as normal.
Man I need to finish my jig tying videos lol.
Thanks smoothlures.
I have double wrapped it both ways. (1) Tie in just behind the head and wrap to the bend then tie off or don't tie off and wrap back to the front. (2) tie in at bend, wrap, tie off, cut off, tie in again and wrap again. Both has it uses and reasons for doing it but the wrap down and then back up is cleaner and makes a smoother looking jig IMO.
As for larger chenille, it also has it's uses and applications. If I want a full body that will hold more air and scent I will use larger chenille, if I want a more symetric body pattern from the chenille I am using I like a double wrap. It all comes down to preference really.
Sorry just saw your question. I start my chenille at the head lay it flat on the hook shank and just warp thread over it to about the point or barb of the hook. Then I wrap the thread back to the head then I wrap the chenille back the the head and for a double wrap I take the thread and make a wrap right there at the head to hold it (trap it there) and then just like I started and lay it down the shank and wrap it some to the about same spot as before (maybe a tiny bit less) and take the thread back to the head. Then wrap the chenille again all the way back to the head where I trap it again and cut it and finish.

I tie mine the same as Skip does. Taking an extra "lap" of thread after laying the first layer of chenille down seems to help durability.
i start the chenille at the head and lay on the hook shank and wrap thread to about even with the hook point and back to the head and then wrap my chenille from the bottom up and tye it off at the head the same as skip it looks like
Thanks.
