Thought you might like to know I saw an article in USA Today which says the government is going to allow more ethanol to be added to gas. Could be a problem for boaters. Allowing up to 10% in gas seems to be causing enough of a problem already.

So far that is for new cars only. 2007 and newer. EPA Allows 15% Ethanol in Gasoline for Newer Cars - Businessweek
so all stations are going to add new pumps or an extra one .
Here in Louisville they've been selling E85% for a while now. Most places just converted 1 or 2 pumps for it. It's used in the newer FLEX FUEL cars and is a little cheaper. Don't know any place left here that sells straight gas anymore everything has 10% ethanol in it, has for years.
Dont think allow is correct.They have to use it federal mandate.

im pretty sure around here there are gas stations that carry non ethanol added fuels. if they do have it they have a sticker on the pump that has it. and im pretty sure most of them, only add ethanol to regular unleaded, not the premium, which ive heard its better to run premium in a boat anyways
also do any of you guys use the products that claim to help against ethanol? i havent used any yet, but havent had my boat long. which ones are good?
Use premium only if your motor is engineered for it which most are not. Sure it will run on it but you are just wasting money.
I agree, premium gas is very expensive, but if it will keep the e-crap out of my merc, then I will buy it. I made a call to Merc about a month ago and the Merc rep said it would be fine to run premium gas through the motor.Now don't get me wrong, I am just like you guys and don't want to spend the extra on the arab liquid, but on the same note I can't afford a mechanic at 100 plus dollars an hour to clean and rebuild my carbs one to two times a year. I am fortunate, there is a couple of stations not to far away that still sells no e- crap. So I run midgrade, which was suggested from the dealership that I bought the boat from.

I add Marine Stabil with midgrade gas for a 2003 Mercury engine w/carbs. Is this good enough to protect it? I've also been told by mechanics you should never run your engine at all unless it is in the water or has been hooked up to a hose w/earplugs. They said it could ruin the engine. I always lower the engine when I first get out of the water to drain it and lower it again when I get it home.
NEVER run your motor with no water going to it. You can destroy your impeller in seconds. Literally. Water is the only thing that lubes it.
Keeferfish, one of the reasons people in the deep south are having more problems with the ethanol than people further north would most likely be due to more humidity here in the south.Moisture gets into the tanks and the ethanol seperates from the gas and combines with the water.Not to mention running older equipment that is not compatible with e-10.Quote:

Not sure were anyone got running an outboard out of water from my first post, I've never done that. I said things with a fuel shutoff, and my boat don't have one. Sorry for the confusion.
my boat doesn't have a shut off either, but that's no problem, I just un-plug the fuel line and run it dry. with ears on of course.Quote:
