This is a first, so I hand tied a few jigs yesterday! Very fun and relaxing! These jigs are 1/16 oz, #4 hooks, powder-coated, buck-tail. My cousins and I will hopefully never worry about going without jigs now!!!

1 thing it kinda looks like youve cut the tails to be even..Dont cut them let them be uneven. What size chenille you using looks like 0 or 00. Try some #2 or medium. Those blue ones look real good. Ive been a fan of blue jigs for awhile...Really good job being your firsts...
Nice work, look like you got the idea just fine. I also like a fatter body and natural tail. Looks like craft hair or something like it. Better take a cooler when you go try em out.
those are good looking jigs stringbean welcome to the addiction of tying
Those look good. They'll fish.;):)
BOBO Nice talking to you today the phone here is what I was talking about a jig with little or no tail the above jigs worked quite well where I used to fish even though the tales were caught off it doesn't seem make any difference. this is a very old post.
Just realized Bob you must have dug this up since it was all posted 3 years ago, LOL!
Yes it was a very old post and I do enjoy reading the old ones I wanted to show Bobo this style of JIG it is was one very productive where I used to live but anyway it is a good one for the guys are getting into tying JIGS.
by the way guys cutting the ends off of the tale had no effect on that style of JIG the only thing with tying is they look a lot better if you do not cut the tips off the hair I believe the fish cannot tell one way or the other.
Probably not, but I do think it has a small change in the action most likey.
Sometimes it doesn't take very little action on all to trigger a strike we found this true over the years fishing for crappie some days they do not want plastic baits or anything else so lets why I carry wide variety of stuff with me including the little jigs that have fairly any action at all I don't know how many of you have used vinyl fibers but they definitely do not have any action at all you might be quite surprised that what happened sometime for those little final fibers.
I do not like using synthetic materials for a tail unless it something like Craft Fur and then only some. I am a natural kind of guy and if the water temps are down in the low 50's I am more likely to sue a kip tail jig and with the short hair it doesn't have a great deal of movement, but once it warms up and the fish are active I try to give them an active bait, like Hackle or Marabou. Just my likes and dislikes. Some tail type materials I just don't like much at all and I am sure people do fine catching fish with it, but it will not be me. I have some synthetic hair kind that I have bought and never used at all, it just sits in there because I have no desire to use it.
I have a whole box full of some of that stuff that I will show you and if you like it I will make you a deal. Some of it looks great as far as colors, but just not my cup of tea.
We probably should just let this thread die and go away back to non current and have this discussion on a new one if wanted.
