wont be to long now... I hear that parts have Oneida lake are frozen over but not safe yet.. also Sandy Pond.. But there needs to be some cold nights with no wind to get everything to setup.. couple more weeks....
trust me, I don't walk on the ice til I see one of the following... a) snowmobile b) car c) atv or d) All of the above!!! ... :D
I recall my first time ice fishing with my Dad. He didn't have a power auger at the time, so yours truly ran around boring holes for him. Ice had to be 10"+ thick! Talk about a workout!!! I was too happy when we purchased a power auger. I ran around popping holes everywhere... LOL after a while the ice looked like a golf course invaded by gophers! :D Don't anticipate going til January....
Hey, I've been waiting for ice since last March !! Oneida's looking OK some of the bays are being fished, and Sany Pond is also. Might head to Sandy this Friday but as for Oneida, Won't be till Jan. for me at least. I want to be in 20fow ... Anyone else around CNY going out??
Eddie, My Dad Tells me that he heard there's 4-5" on the pond...
Yup that sounds right from other forums I've been on... Have a friend going to go and check Oneida now. How thick it is is another story... Might get out tomorrow to the pond but we'll see if this pans out and if so will post pics..
My uncle fished Guffin bay todday... he said 4"ice...
Bucket full of Yellow Perch = Definitely good eating there REDBOAT!!!
REDBOAT is VERY Jealous
I got out to day at Oneida, only some gills, ok at first then the wind kicked up, dang cold....
Nice looking perch, good eating there...
My son goes with a group around Corning NY all the time. They try new areas out once a month but fish the finger lakes regulary. Check with the sporting goods store right off the Painted Post NY exit on US 86.
Last week at Oneida, cant down load pics of past week, some thing is wrong with camera. More are coming.

nice catch, thanks.
around here need to shovel a couple feet of snow off to get to the point where you can start in with the auger!!!!
Hey Ed, you ever try the little lakes out my way? Just curious if anybody has any luck on the hard water.
My 1st Crappies through ice !! Fished from 5:30 to 9:00 pm and this is my take . My buddy got about 20 slabs, I had one hook come off when I got it out of the hole, reached down and pushed it out onto the ice just to slip into the other hole a foot away...

Eddie,
You guys still have ice up there? ... WOW!!!
Its about 55 degrees here today and was 60+ yesterday. I bet on some of the lakes we still have 12+ inches of ice. But I'm putting it away as we speak. Snowblower also. Started the lawn mower, etc... Spring pics of river Crappies will be coming soon.
Hey, I have the same fishfinder on my jonboat... how do you rig the transducer for ice fishing? I might give that a try when I try ice fishing next year. I've got a lawn tractor battery that will run it and keep the weight down.
Different, ducer is a ice fishing one, but I hear you can use the one you have by attaching it to a piece of wood some how?
Lawn tractor battery?? All the ice fishing stuff I use uses the 12V like the one in the bottom pic. It will run off a 12V for days and not have to recharge it. They go for 25-29 bucks but I have gotten them from electricians who get them from emergency lights they replace. Some are good and some are no good.
It also has a ice fishing setting, somewhere. It was set when I bought it used. Better than any Vex I've used.. How is it in a boat?? I may have to try it...
Lot of bang for the buck in the X67. I'm not sure all of them came with the IceMachine option. Works great in the boat! I like it on the ice but prefer the Ronco theory of "set it and forget it" so I use a Vex most of the time. You can use the boat transducer on the ice but you need to mount it so you can get it below the ice and keep it level. The Iceducer is shaped like an egg cut in half crossways so it kind of levels itself. A tractor battery is a bit more weight to carry than a Vex style sealed lead/acid but it'll get you there without extra expense till you're hooked. See Iceshanty.com for dozens of adaptations.
I checked the Lowrance site, and there is an accessory pack for the x67c that includes battery, charger, transducer, and case... $160.
My wish list for fishing and hunting stuff has me needing to win the lottery!
Im in Dutchess county. Although its late for this year, come next season if anyone wants to get together let me know. I actually ice fish more that I soft water fish as I go out every weekend and sometimes during the week.
Right now Im readying the kayak for the striper run on the Hudson, and pannies in the bays of the local lakes. If anyone wants to get together PM me.
Tight lines,

kb2112 ... Many years ago, my Dad and I kept our boat in Columbia County (Claverack - left there as they treated the lake with something that killed off many fish) also did ice fishing @ Lake Taconic. Now, I mainly fish in Westchester Cty (resevoirs included) & Sodom (Brewster). Last time we fished the Hudson was for catfish (i.e. Bear Mtn). God willing, I'll be trying my luck with the crappies this upcoming weekend!
Where are you heading out? I went out yesterday and didnt have any luck, but it was nice to get out after the winter. Water temp was 47.
kb2112,
right now I'm looking at going to Mohansic (Yorktown Heights - Westchester Cty.) this Sunday. I have to renew permits as well as place registration sticker on the boat. Predicted weather isn't favorable at this time, but if it isn't too windy, I'll drop a line while I'm there. Really would like to go Saturday but already committed to do something else
I havent fished there since I was really young. How is it there? I take it you mostly boat fish.
yes, boat fish there and other places. haven't freshwater fished from the bank in many years. Bass, Crappie and Bluegill fishing is GREAT there. Yellow perch isn't too far behind either :)
there's the main lake and a pond behind it. The pond yields great fishing as well (better than the main IMO). Have seen people catching from the shore, but think it's difficult (not impossible) to access the back lake (pond)
Have also seen people doing well at the resevoir (Amawalk & Muscoot). There's a crappie hole not far off Rte 100. The really do a lot of trout fishing in a nearby stream
