Might not work for production, but you can also use a clear glitter powder paint top coat. Calls for a "double" dip while the head is hot, but works pretty well. Gotta watch it sometimes, or the glitter can be uneven, but I like it. I've seen about 10 colors of glitter--gold, silver, chartreuse, red, blue, black, holographic gold and silver, green. Don't have to add more basic colors; I'd say with the gold, silver, red, blue, and chartreuse top coat, if you've got 10-15 basic colors, you've just expanded to 50-75 variations.
