Pretty skinny yet here in SE Minnesota for my carcass. Heavy snow is forecast for us here starting late in the day tomorrow and lasting thru Saturday. Thats just what we need on young ice.
Am sure this won`t be well recieved, but as far as SAFE (6") ice need a wk long "Siberian Express" with no percipitation; just @$$ numbing wind chill factors followed by 2 wks 45-50 degrees, no wind and sun shine! Am hoping...
went and checked a few spots today....1/4" - 1/2" of ice so far with some open water here and there. am busy this weekend and out of town monday/tuesday. hoping by then its a good 3".
I am hoping to get out Sunday.....if the snow doesnt come!!!!!!

I was in the Twin Cities yesterday working with Thorne Bros at the St. Paul Ice Fishinging Show. Its a huge event and generally signals the kick0off of the ice season. We have already had several instnces of people thru the ice with one being most likely one man's last act. You are not safe on young ice. Ever. 3" minimumof clear, clean ice for walking.
this morning here in S.E.Ohio all none moving water has a cover on it, just a crust but a serious cold snap ahead for the next week and a half. Never know, pond fishing by X-mas maybe.
Ill be going out for the first time this season in an hour or so. We have about 5 inches of good ice so far. About a week ahead of last year.
We finished up Friday's little blow with about 10 inches here at home. The snow is light since we never saw temps abovce 18 degrees while it fell. I saw the forcast for the next week and it calls for some cooler temps for daytime highs...lower to mid teens. Nightly lows maybe under that zero mark for the first time this season. Even with the drier snow we'll make ice. I'll stay off until next weekend. At 250 and not being able to see what's under my butt I like to be safer that soaked....that and my gills have long sinced past their operational stage.
Goingn out tomorrow for first time. A week behind last year. Will post when I get back.
