About a month ago when hunter7711 came up and fished Okatibbee, he brought me his airbrush set and air compressor. I've been experimenting with it painting crankbaits. I used Createx water based airbrush paint, starting with a white base coat. After drying I sprayed the color and painted on the eyes. I used a clear gloss vinyl lure finish as the top coat. Something to do while I get over this cold. LOL Here's a few Bandits and Wiggle Warts.

Looks good but why not paint the bills?
The bills are supposed to be invisable Maj. I do know that DD paints his bills with red fingernail polish and says it makes a difference. It is something to experiment with.....I know on the Brads Warts and the Storm Wiggle Warts the bills are painted to match the bodies.
Good looking paint job Scott. Get some small nylon netting or mesh at a sewing store and wrap the mesh around the bait and air brush through the netting for a fish scale pattern in your paint.....then remove the net and clear coat.
I may try some with the bills painted. I'm just learning this art and there's a lot more to it than I thought. I'm ready to do some field testing now. LOL

I noticed that some of the Wiggle Warts have painted bills and some don't G3. The two on the bottom left are Wiggle Warts. I may get fancy one day with this, but I'm doing good the get one solid color on there right now. LOLQuote:

Thanks Gary, I tried the Envirotex two part topcoat you gave me on a few last night. The ones I used it on are still tacky, but have a good finish on them. The clear gloss vinyl lure finish does real good. You just brush it on and hang it up to dry. It don't run and drip, but you'd better open a window, it smells real strong. I'm still playing with the consistancy of my paint and all, but it's a lot of fun.Quote:

I think they look like crap! You need to bring the air brush set to me and let me paint some. Just kiddin! They look great. The only improvement I see is to put some glitter (silver or blue) on them.

Man, thats awesome right there. Just out of curiousity, about how much does it cost to get setup with an airbrush and compressor. Been thinking about doing that myself

Gotta hand it to you man, you do an excellent job. I bought all stuff necessary to paint some too, but mine wouldn't even pass for graffiti.
To be honest man, there ain't no need to get fancy. All that fancy scale pattern and other stuff is to catch us fisherman

DG00 i used markers similar to that. the only difference i did not have it where two colors faded together like the air brush can do. it was just hard lines of color. but i did catch fish on them and that was satisfying enough for me.
The vinyl jig and lure paints they sell at BPS will work to just brush on. You can thin them and spray with an airbrush but you need to use a respirator. Just brushing it you need to open a window and turn on a fan. You'll need some of their thinner to clean the brush.
