Freezing temps are not kind to lower units with water in them. I screwed up a few years back and didn't drain the lower unit on a Nissan 30 horse I had and paid for it. I fish all winter out of my glass boat so I try and make it a habit to drain that sucker at the ramp.
Good advice.
I've always just trimmed the motor down and haven't had any problems. Is there something else I should be doing?
dd just stay at home---i have no problems here in mid. st. in. fish year round ice doesnt set in till first week in jan. off last week of feb. on the norm
naw dd just let your lower unit down and drain all the water after you take out at the ramp and you'll b fine.
It's a good practice to drain it year round as well. The water left on the seals ain't good for em regardless ifn its freezin or not.

Also if you have it stored outside with the motor uncovered trimmed up, rain water can also get in there and freeze.
So DD go let your motor down till you get ready to go fishin again!

DD, let your motor down at the ramp and leave it down until you get home. Then raise it up to keep out the water.
