First post bait pic

Hello to all. This is my first post. I was told about this site from Rick @ Jacobs baits. I see that you all really love to think out of the box. Here is a pic of a new mold( at least to me) I got today. I emailed Rick and asked if he had heard of people using a two color injector on his molds. He said he had not. I have a customer that wanted this style baits in two colors. I was amaized that it worked so well right at the get go. I did have to use his adapter to inject but it worked well. Three colors to come next. Frank

they look fantastic. Frank and I do use 2 injector with Jacob's molds. I've told Rick about this before but they do work good with his molds. We do have the exact same mold as you. They look fantastic. I love the color combination you do good work. Hope to see more pictures in the future I'll have to watch out for you. You be taken all my buddies away but you do have fantastic looking stuff there. Keep up the good work.

looks great, glad to see another bait maker on board with us. I might have to go ahead and do the two color injector. I make mine the hard way. I was trying to save a little money but I may take the plunge befoe long.

The color on the back is actually watermelon brown w/red&gold flake. This color is real decieving. Frank

look good.....ever make some with a silvery blue as the top color???

Have not yet just got the mold yesterday. I will try it today. One of my shops wants that color anyways. Will post later today. Frank

good-looking plastic baits Frank you must've bought every one of Rick's molds I know I got addicted to him also, but I do see some strange looking ones are those from Bass tackle.

The silvery back is two drops of mf blue added to the pearl white from the bottom. Not much magic there. Snake yes I do have alot of Ricks molds but I have been dealing with Basstackle for awhile. The top right is a 1 3/4" paddle tail grub. Not on his site and very hard to shoot without bubbles. The reason it is not on there. This may sound a little odd but most of my small molds are actually used for surf perch. I live about 50 miles from the ocean and there is where most of these are used. So my colors might be a little differant but now you know why. Frank

there is nothing wrong with that color. Frank they are good combinations or any type of fish. We have some problems with a couple of my molds with bubbles, but we use the get it pretty hot. The mold in the plastic. It seems to work better with a hot mold were talking about close to 400° hotter not that you're not going to touch the mold with your hands are you heating your double injector and a toaster oven before you use them. That's what I've been doing getting them pretty hot you cannot use a dual and bless you heat them up pretty warm sense you are fishing in the ocean do you use any of the big twister tails like the 4 in 5" just carious we are thinking about buying a for for bass. We have a 24 cavity coming for 2 inch the 2 inches so popular here in the twister tail. I would say that it is number one seller one of the local retailers goes through about 3000 in acid rain a year, but just for the summertime . In the other one that I know about retailer is about 5000 in the acid rain per season I'm sure that you can shoot in make the acid rain without any problem. Frank with that doing the injector you could definitely do it. We do it the hard way. Or maybe it's a simple way but I like to use a small syringe to fill half the body it would be cool if we had some way of shoot in all three at the same time colors . Well keep up the good work. Frank I sure do enjoy seeing your plastic baits I know Rick will be coming up with some new stuff you're pretty quick. He always surprises me I keep him working hard . I think him and he buys stock in Rick's business. He gets most of my money anyway.

I sure have to order me some more molds soon, wish I just had the time to use them. Those baits look really good. I cant wait to get started back (whenever that might be)

That color is not one of the differant ones. When I shoot them I will post a pic and show you guys. I the surf the perch dont really go for the big stuff, like over 2" and color is critical to sucess. I have heated my molds in the past but dont anymore, just dont see a need. I made this video to show that you dont have to preheat molds or injectors before to get a good pour. This is my way and by no means is it the only way. Any coments are welcome because I am never closed minded about learning something new or better. I posted it over on TU so some of you may have seen it. Frank

I have never heated my molds

after one shot of hot plastic they get heated anyway

It is a Basstackle unit. It is sold as one but can be taken apart to use as a single. When I shoot Ricks molds I have to use his adapter as well. It becomes a bit of a balancing act but works well. When I talked to him about using this unit on his he was concerned that the plastic would mix before it got to the cavity. Funny thing is the sprue/runner is half and half all the way down. Frank

Some people insist you have to heat that is why I made the video. To show that it does not have to be heated and also that the adapter does work if you use it right. If you notice I have aluminium on the top surfaces to get rid of the heat from continual use. Plus the hotter the mold the longer it takes to demold. Frank

yes I do have Rick's adapter it works quite well. I use it on quite a few different molds, especially when I shoot my jelly jigs because of the injector I use has a big port and it helps you control the slop over I get kinda messy sometimes I forgot to ask you in your video how did you keep your Pyrex bowls hot did you have them in a container of some sort over there but I could not see any hotplate or anything, I know that you had to keep them warm some method. And thank you for the information. I will have to go there to see what they have. I didn't know they had a injector like that or can be put together like that. I like the fact of the tying the top in with a crossbar so you can shoot evenly.

To keep the cups hot I use a griddle with high sides. The temp is turned all the way up to 400 deg. I wish it would go up to 425. It hold the temp up there for a while but at times you will still have to put it back in the micro. On the injector look for the one called twinjector. A really nice unit with locking tips so they dont fall off in the cups. As you can see in the video it is a breeze to clean out. My go to single injector is Ricks new one. It too has a tip that locks on and the tip is a taper so it will fit his molds and pretty much all others. Frank

I did not like Rick's injector the tip was too small. So I use a bear to get a good flow I know Rick's will work fine if you keep the tip warm but I never did like his injectors and lessee come out with a bigger tip on it . Thank you for the information. I will definitely go there and probably order one. I definitely like that set up have you went to bear site and looked at that new machine they got man that thing cost a little bit, but if you got the molds to shoot that would be the way to go. I'd go broke by and molds, but you never know if I decide to go into it big time were a lot of plastic baits we might have to get one you are definitely not new at shooting plastic. How long have you been doing it. We just started the first part of this summer and I've learned so much in a little time but we keep learning every day trial and error in the shop but we are definitely learning how to work with plastics. I'm a little bit lazy on making things look pretty were pictures but we will definitely be messing with that stuff forever were to you by your plastics. I seen a bottle in the video. I don't know who's it was we bought a 55 gallon drum. From bear . We went through about 20 gallons already in a few months which making small baits like I do will make a ton of them. We are using supersoft or soft plastic I prefer the soft because I like lots of action in my bait don't know too much about the plastic I thought I did but I believe it's a different formula been the original batch that I got I believe the stuff I got comes out of Washington state but it is good. I do not have any problems with bears plastics.

I use MF super soft plastic mostly but for dipping heads on baits I have the bottle you saw from bears, bbcp in soft. I is clearer and withstands heat better before yellowing. I make alot of larger baits but still dont buy my plastic in 55s. I have been doing this for close to 2 yrs and really enjoy it. I have seen bears new machine but have not heard how well it is doing and that is not good because if it was that good I am sure it would have been posted some where. Also the price went up soon after it was released not sure why. I dont think it will fit mold from Ricks and am sure he will not make an adapter for that. I like the way I am working right now and dont see any changes in my way soon. I have a good variety of molds and a couple stores with my stuff in there. That is good for me. Frank

bears machine . I do not know if all molds will fit inside that machine. But if they didn't, they should they would definitely sell the machine. I have not read anything besides the video on and I haven't heard anybody else talk about that machine. I think one reason why nobody's talking about it it it is so expensive for just the average guy and really it's not big enough or commercial either I'm sure that you've seen the commercial set up work they have like 100 cavity mold through shooting. So he needs to drop the price on the machine a little bit I figure a whole bunch . He needs to give me one those machines to try out all let you guys all know how it works. Ha ha ha ha.

This is exactly why I never bought the two color injector is because I was told that the colors would mix and swirl in the multicavity molds and I would never get a decent looking two color bait with the crappie jig molds. Thanks for posting this video, now I will probably buy one.

I see that you use soft plastic. I also use soft plastic but I am thinking about trying medium plastic. Sometimes with the soft if the baits are really small, they split when you use them a couple times. I need some tougher plastic for dock shooting. I think the soft plastic splits easier. Have you seen any issues with this? I definately like the action though.

Frank, would you be so kind as to lift the griddle up and show exactly what it looks like and maybe tell us where we can find something like that. It would be much appreciated.

franks, thats a nice set up. have you broken any of those pyrex cups by keeping them continuously hot like that?
