997 at trolling motor works great but when i move it to the console the sceen stays cluttered ,haven`t tried it with outboard off yet to see if it helps.only difference in the two setups is the power cord at the trolling motor has a choke built in and the console power cable doesnt have the choke.do yall think that could be the problem ,thanks

what battery do you have them hooked to. The TM or the crank?
-
both locations hooked to cranking battery
-
I'd check for loose wires then. Take them loose and redo the connection. I had problems when I had it hooked to the TM battery with that but once I hooked it to the crank batt, problems we gone

u have the built in choke on ur power wire

I will be at lake this Friday thru Sunday. A/C man coming. I am gonna have to miss our club tournament. Give me a call. I got cables and ferrite rings too.
-
Thats the problem you need a choke on the other cable......sounds like CanePole has what he needs to build you one.
-
Can someone tell me what a choke is? Thanks

heres what a choke is ,notice the round thing built in to the power wire.

Basically it’s a device used to ‘choke’ or filter out unwanted Radio Frequency (RF) signals. They are made for a specific radio frequencies so you have to know what frequency is causing the problem. Here is a picture of a PC-11 with a built in RF choke (that’s the lump).

Ok thanks guys. I have a fishfinder that shows fish no matter what I do. I know that it is not on simulator mode and I have tried every setting I know and had several other people try it. But the problem continues. The unit is an Eagle 642. It is hooked to the cranking battery and the unit is at the console with the transducer on back. Could this be what I need to solve my problem? I dont have any other electronics on my console if that makes a diff. Thanks

have u adjusted sensitivity or adjusted your noise filter it should be somewhere under options
-
I have to the best of my ability. To get it to stop reading junk the sensitivity has to go down to like 40 and then it doesnt show brush or anything. I have put the noise filter on anywhere from off to high.
-
Clean your transducer. I do this on a regular basis. Dirty transducer causes you to set wrong sensitivity. The dirty transducer is a source of all evils. It may look clean, but it ain't. Clean it regularly.

I have a brand new one on. The first one was doing it and I had an extra one that was brand new so I put it on and am having the same problem.
