I'll be receiving a y-guard mold in a few days. Let me take a look at it and see if its something that can be done easily.
I am sure someone ties them, but not sure who. I don't do weedless so far and have so many heads weights and hooks sizes I just couldn't see having weedless in all of them and then there is the painting and curing trouble. Not to mention tying around a weed guard.
Sorry,

First after you find out about the tying them you would need to paint them with vinyl unless you cure long and low temp, but still dipping the heads in powder would not go easy I wouldn't think. I just chose to not get into weedless and still live by the same, don't use them and don't sell them.

we also do not tie weedless we don't have a demand for them here . And I'm like skip they would be awful hard to work with .
I tried tying one and it went in the trash. I'm not that patient sometimes.
It's hard enough to me to tie a horsehead with the spinner attached. I get the Roadrunners at Wal Mart sometimes and tie them.
Scott take the split ring and blade off to tie them. All you need is some split ring pliers. Still even then they are different and I use an extended reach whip finish tool for them.

x2 what skip says...take them off and tie them...them reattach them
Dont use weedless anymore . . . use to take a very small rubber band and go from tie eye back to barb. Would work fairly well. Now have to many jigs, just decorate the trees now and then
I wonder if you could litely tie in a plastic stinger tail on the top of jig by the head and run the hook point into the end of the tail? Should work and should come out when you set the hook, just a idea Ive never tried it.
bill english down in texas has them on his website. google custom crappie jigs and click on design your own jigs, sometimes I get on his guest page and it's impossible to get to his jig order pages from there. he uses one strand of wire sticking up from the head. kip
I have been thinking about drilling a small hole in the jig head and glueing in a weed gaurd. I wish I had the time to pour and tie my own jigs but kids sports and going to school at night takes all my time. I can barely find enough time to fish but still manage to go 3 or 4 times a month.
I drill & glue after I tie the jig. It's a real pain in the *** but necessary sometimes!!

I'm with skip on the extended reach whip tool and sometimes even whip them by hand. If you have a mold that has the pins in it you can pour them, powder paint them, cure drill out the guard hole tie then glue the weedguard in. Yeah they can be a pain.

i haven't really used jigs with weed guards before.i don't lose jigs that much either.not braggin,i use power pro braided line and recover jigs most the time when they get hung up.that line is tough stuff and takes a beatin and holds!
Bassman 356 Do you just hold the jig with one hand and drill with the other or do you put the jig in something before you begin drilling? How deep do you have to drill to get the epoxy to hold?
bronson I put the jig in a vise and drill down to the hook, try to angle and drill to where the hook bends 90 degrees
I hold the jig with vise-grips & drill to the hook with a small drill press.
I do not bother with weed guards. It is more effecient for me to just tie up more jigs before I go out. All of my personal jigs are 1/16; 1/32; or 1/64 so I keep plenty of those sizes. I got out of the mail order selling business about two years ago. Hope you are well my friend. Take care.
