Question on 898si Transducer mounting, here is a short clip of what

I am wandering if is correct or is there something not right on my mounting ? Now keep in mind that my transducer is as tight as I can get it with the bolt going throught the top of the mount, I had been reading that maybe I am missing a rubber spacer maybe ??

The HB xducers are designed to have a little play to allow them to "kick up" if they hit something in the water...

x2 what rnvinc say....that said they do have a rubber spacer (EXTRA ORDERFREE) but its to stop a rooster tail of water spraying up behind boat on some boats it hits motor goes into boat. If you look down at your transducer from top of transom u will notice a small space/slot between boat and ducer bracket(about 1/8 thick by inside width of metal bracket), this is where water sprays from they offer gray/or black rubber plug to fit in there. At $250 a pop U want ducer to kick up not try to tear up stumps........;)

There should have been two metal star washer in the packaging. When you tighten the screw up it should be pretty tight. It looks like the movement is up and down and you should not have that much play in it. Jaxsprat is right the transducer will kick up if you hit something. I would make sure the metal star washer are installed correctly and the screws are tightened down.

Will check it Joby, but the star washers are in place and that part of the mount seems to be tight, it is just the top screw is tight but it is not holding the ducer in place, thus giving me the movement

That is correct maachu. That pivot bolt and screw will be tight to each other but there will still be movement and this is by design. This allows the ‘ears’ of the metal bracket to spread outwards when the transducer’s black plastic pivot arm arcs around when the transducer kicks up. If that play were not there than the pivot arm could not rotate upwards and the transducer would take the full force of whatever it hit. If it bothers you than you can usually tighten it up by removing the transducer and pivot arm, than squeeze the ears of the metal bracket closer together. Reassemble everything and it will still have some play but probably not as much as before while it will still allow the transducer to kick up.

Thanks Greg, if it is not a problem with it, I will just leave it alone providing it wont hurt anything

Mine does the same thing. It is moving between the dimples on the bracket.Like when down to the dimples. the dimples should be set forward a little to take out slop. If you can understand what I am trying to say. There is a major tolerence there.

I think I understand what you are saying wilbur, the dimples are out and it come back and forth between them thus the slack

It’s hard to keep tight tolerances with a stamped part guys or at least not without spending a lot more per part that is. This is the same design that we have been using since the ‘80’s. Like I said: you can bend the ears of the metal bracket inwards to tighten it up a little. I have even heard of some placing a piece of rubber between the pivot arm (black plastic part) and the metal mount just so it will not move at all. This will still allow it to kick upwards if you strike something.
