Link wouldn't work for me. Don't know anyting about H'bird specifically, but in theory, you take an RJ45 connetion and use Cat5 cable to make network connections. Been needed for a long time and Lowrance has already moved to it. Works similar to a USB port. Plug and Play compatable as far as configurations etc. The catch is when you have multiple devices such as fuel flow, wheather sense, sirius weather etc.... You run out of ports on the unit, so you have to use a networking box to combine everything on the network.
I'll poke around and see what I can find out.

Yeah go figure this all out so I can give it a try.
Midnight- Come to our get together and I will give you a new 2011 H'bird & MK catalog.
Here is the link.
ICAST 2010 Videos
It still looks like the H'bird folks are playing catch up to Lowrance.
Been poking around, but can't look at the videos here. Only thing I can find out is that it will be available as a network option on the new units.

Yep coming out with the new models.. 1198 hummmmmm
I found alittle information on it not much.
At ICAST today, Humminbird announced ethernet networking for their fishing systems will be rolling out by January 1. All current ethernet-capable head units will be able to run ethernet, as will the 1198 that will be coming out this fall.
Ethernet networking will allow head units to share all available sonar data (in addition to GPS, waypoints, and routes like we currently have available with Interlink). The ethernet networking capability will roll out for 2 units, but a 4-unit network will roll out shortly thereafter, for guys like me that have units sprinkled all over their boat. All current ethernet-capable units will be able to upgrade to ethernet networking with a simple, free software upgrade from the Humminbird website.
Also looks like they will be using the round wheather proof connector, so the RJ45s will be out. That will increase the cost of wiring. What looks nice to me is that all head units can use one tranducer. Or thats the way I read it.
Yeah, it won't be a true RJ45. That was only for a point of reference.

Looks like they already have units with ethernet. They have a cable for sell??? I think the round connector on my 1197 is an ethernet port.
My 998 is either-compatable but is my 788?
I'm not seeing a big benifit with the ethernet port. I would keep all my transducers, the Interlink works good, may need more than 1500 way points for some. But to me being able to connect to the I-Pilot would be the biggest gain. I have not seen that upgrade yet with the ethernet. But it would be good, I would get one then. :D But who knows what they will come out with to work with it.
Maybe even a dounut eater for CanePole :D:D:D and a fish catcher for WB :D:D:p
I was hoping that interlink would share lakemaps but it doesn't. Will the new ethernet connection allow that?
This is a quote from the ICAST show
"Also new with these units will be Ethernet capability making it easier to share information between units including sonar and GPS information. We inquired whether this means sharing of map data as well and all we got was a smile - no confirmed yes, no confirmed no.. just a smile."
So maybe ???
I don't see the major gain with Ethernet myself either. Maybe just ease and expense of the hookup. What I'd really like to see though is when scanning with SI to be able to screen capture a pass, then use it as a map overlay to re-position your boat over that image. It should be capable since you can slide the cursor out for a waypoint. Seems like it'd just be a software tweak.

Dadgum....I missed that. Pretty bad when even your family starts pot shotting ya. What's next? CN? Surely not. That's immediate fambly right there.

I TRY to behave, Wannabe....... really I do. The Maj has been a very positive influence on me, but sometimes he has to scold me just a bit to bring me back to reality. :(
I have your back 95% of the time. That's better than the rest of these YAY-HOOZ 'round here!
95% is an A+ in my book. Course, 5% of 6,664 posts is 333 improper answers..........
Still, you've got the highest average amongst the students here, so you will graduate on time. I'm sure of it.
Wannabe...
333 improper answers but only 5% of those could be accidentally misconstrued as being not 100% Wannabe approved. So that's 16.65 potentially unfavorably biased posts of which probably only 2% were actually anti-Wannabe posts. SO there you have it..... 0.333 posts that were not my usual ALMOST 100% Wannabelovin' posts.
Any questions?
now my head hurts
With all that it aint my head it is the other end!
I'm sure "Stranger" is doing these calculations in his head to verify accuracy! :)
WB do you think if minn kota cause out with a replacement for the terrova that it to could be ethernet compatible?
Very well could be. Noticed Cabelas has been running Terrovas on clearance. Might just be clearing them out for the new models.
Wannabe...
The new models will have the improved shaft
I wish they would make the i-pilot interlink with ff-gps, so you could plot saved waypoints and troll from one to the next.
