MNF and fishing. Most regulars on here have probably learned how to tie basic jigs and/or flies. I do not post a lot of pictures of fish I caught because I have nothing to prove. People either believe or they do not. Pictures of the basic jigs I tie are in several stickies in the jig tying forum. I shut down my business two years ago except for some close friends. I am 65 and enjoying full retirement.
I check in daily to see what is new and if I can help someone. There are numerous others who can do the show and tell routines.
When it hit low 70s I switched from fishing to hunting. Deer season opened Oct 1. :D ;) Picked up a couple of doe tags today to fill the freezer with.
I've been so busy lately that It's hard to find time to fish or tie. What I have done I post about. I don't post to show off, but like you say it's nice to see what others are up to.
Understand both of your answers and Smooth I for sure know yours and every year I use to do the same thing. Fishing ended when hunting started, but just too old and broke down for regular hunting like I use to do. I was big on, dove, duck and goose and of course deer hunting. I am thinking of going to a hunting ranch that is managed very well so I may get a shot at a big White Tail. I have my Elk, but wouldn't mind another Axis deer for the eating. However I want a wall hanger White Tail that will score something 160 or bigger. That would make me very happy. I got the guns and ammo so all I need is a great spot. Around here it's not what I want as there are lots of deer, but not many big like I want. I would take a 200 pound 160 from South Texas, but am interested in one of them 300+ pounds of a Northern Whit tail too.
Ship I just need this for something to stay busy, maybe not as busy as I am, but still something always waiting for me to do them. That is why I tie still today as it sure is not for money or even materials now that I have more than I can ever use. That is where all the money that came in the last 4 1/2 years went, about 99% into new materials. This year I concentrated in high quality stuff I didn't have, but wanted for me. So that part is not for selling stuff, but tying foe me.
Not sure how much longer I will keep selling jigs, but for now it is what it is and I could stand less, LOL!
Skeet I have just come to like most of our guys here and want to see what they are doing and if we can help with something. Trade ideas and such.

I've been camping at our local reservoir for the past week and fishing everyday. I tell you, it's a hard life. LOL I'll show some pics.

Attachment 47135
OOps, playing with the new pic posting. LOL
i got a question skip if you choke a smerf what color does it turn and if a tree falls in the woods and nobody is around does it make any noise :)
Since a smurf is a fictions cartoon character and is blue, I would have to just guess and say red. As far as the tree making noise, sure God hears it because he's always around, not to mention all the critters that hear it.

I'm also retired ship but we still enjoy making up jigs and I'm like many others I do not do it for to make money. I do it for the enjoyment and to keep me busy like skip I have just got carried away with it. I call it a big hobby but you're never too old to keep tying them up. Even if you did your business as part time it would definitely keep you occupied and deftly keep you out of mischief I started this beautiful hobby when I was very young around 15 years old in be and 63 knowing that I will never quit enjoying myself I think this tying jigs is been part of my life and I'm not about to let it go. It's something I truly enjoy doing and course I enjoy the site tremendously it think it is like God give me a gift to enjoy, communicating with other people that do the same as I do, and what better place than here. So to each and every one you guys out there that do tie in that I've had the chance to see some a your work on the swaps. I hope that you'll always be here and never let your hobby die. I've met many interesting people on the site and every one of you are different in the way you tie up your jigs. There are never two people the same is I've watched many of you progressed over the year or going on over two years. I say hooray for you I seen many of you really have improved in your skills are coming along fine in for the beginners don't ever get discourage keep on fighting. It will all fall into place you come out with better looking jigs than never.
I've been testing some new baits and the crappie have been biting the last couple weeks. Fishing three days a week can wear a retired guy like me out, especially cleaning those crappie after the trip. The other sites I frequent are slow as well,Skip. Maybe everyone is fishing and hopefully catching some nice ones.
I don't know why I'm so busy but I haven't wet a line since way early in July or August.
Sorry I haven't been on, is salmon season and i have been fishing as much as my body will allow. Promise to post more jigs as I am going to be making a lot for salmon that will cross over.
in the process of moving....painting, laying floors and such.......its been crazy.....havnt tied a jig in three weeks.
Seems we are all busy and that's good, but also that hunting season sure changes some people. I know when I was younger and had hunting to do, fishing in the winter has never been my thing either. I agree with the other boards are not exactly jumping either so guess it's the time of year plus other things that others are doing right now.

Don't know about yall but work has been crazy with the dealer ship gearing up for Truck Month and the end of the year rebates. Plus the whole lead ban thing has me kinda worried and affriad of wasting materials on jigs I'll never be able to use.
i been tying jigs here and there some.might go fishing tomoro if my body doesn't force me to hafta be close to a toilet like it has the past few days...i read some fishing reports of my area and before we got all this rain, people were getting on crappies from shore at some lakes, even one of the lakes in my town that i've never caught crappies at.i wonder how the fish will behave after all the rain.we really needed some rain in lakes here.they been real low sposedly drought conditions in some areas.either way im itching to get out fishing!my buddy got his car back,so me and him will be hitting lakes again soon, ground poundin' like we did earlier this year
Other than vacation to FL I havent been fishin in atleast 2 months and havent tied a jig either. Projects around the house and bow season have taken up a lot of time. Did get a big bag of new stuff the other day so i am going to get back to wrappin a few up and if it stays this warm may bow hunt mornings and fish afternoons. Some fairly substantial changes with work have interferred too but hopefully that is all worked out now.
I check every day sometimes three times a day on every site I belong to. I posted what was to me a pain in the neck project that moved considerably farther down as I got into it. You can find it in lure making. Lots of times I put off posting in one category or another to keep from bumping someone else who's post may have been up for only a few hours. But I will try to get a little more active.
Myself dont tie jigs, as my old man shakes wont let me.
Do enjoy seeing and reading all about jig tying, if I was up to it all that have learned just reading would give me advantages as compared to a newbie
:)
Spending way too much time going to Doctors appointments and physical therapy. Hope to get out before the season ends, but hunting is out for this year.
Fatman
Boy I hear that Doctor thing, seems I am always going and I put off my Heart Doc all the time, but got to go soon to see him. Don't like going there. I went last year for the first time in probably 5 or 6 years and he said back in 4 months, that was about 1 1/4 years back so he's not going to be happy with me I guess. I have only been in A Fib since my bypass surgery in 2000 so they get a bit unhappy when I don't go like I should. But heck I am always having to go to my regular doc and have been to the darn dentist or several kind about 10-15 time in the last year and half. Sheesh!

One of the reasons it's so easy for me to be 'busy' is that I never caught any Crappie when I did get to go fishing. It was depressing. I never made contact with anybody around here to fish with. So I never found out what I didnt know.
It's not the Fear of Failure, but the annoyance of Constant Failure that keeps me busy around the house.
Thud, there's some excellent fishing close to you down there. I hired a guide that answered a ton of my questions in 1 day. It sure speeds the learning curve. Terry Whaley on Lake Weiss is who I used, and I can't say enough good about him. Great guy and happy to teach. He doesn't have many secrets he won't share. Give it some thought.
in the next couple weeks i will be starting my jig tying for real and will be posting pics of what i come up with
As for me, I have been to busy working and if not working than fishing. Catching big crappie for the moment and will continue till the bite plays out. Colder weather will probably have me inside tying jigs again.
Seems like it always slows down in the summer and fall skip...Just wait till were all housebound and getting cabin fever in Dec and Jan !!!
Your probably right radtexan, but I just don't remember this one slowing so much and yeah there is specially a fall of when hunting kicks up. I use to do that too every year. Once hunting season hit, the fishing was done until the next Feb, LOL.
I have been thinking about trying to find a good ranch or hunting place maybe up North some to get one really great Whitetail. I have shot plenty and some nice, but I want a monster, something that scores over 160 B&C. I would prefer him being closer to 200, but a 165-185 would make me happy and done deer hunting. Not that I would go get more Axis deer, them are some great eating venison. Best there is and very close to Elk.
However then I remember when I was guiding up here at this lake in the late 1970's and the fall was whack um time and I could catch 60-70 crappie per hour most any time I wanted. I have not fished the fall in years though and no reason I don't. I just think more guys should get after them fall crappie because they are there for the taking.
