Hummingbird power question

I have a Hummingbird 597ci, I went out this morning and plugged it in to go to the lake. I always turn it on to check and make sure it's working before I leave, I pushed the power button and it came on but as soon as I released the power button it went back off. It does this everytime I turn it on as long as I hold it down it comes on but if I let off the power it goes off. Any ideas what might cause this? Is it internal on the unit?

I would start with checking your contacts and battery connections for corrosion. The unit draws the most power at startup and by holding in the button you are keeping the power on for the time it takes to start up. JMO

Do you keep the 597ci plugged into the battery supply?
If so it may be that the battery voltage has dropped below the required voltage level.
MOST fish-depth finders still draw a small amount of current when attached to the battery and the unit is turned off.

satdoc1, all the connections seem to be tight and corrosion free, but I'll double check them all again to be sure

flycaster, I unhook the unit itself everytime I don't leave it plugged into the boat unless I'm using it.

I would check the battery also, may be just low & needs charge or maybe dry/sick cell..

Ok, I got it all figured out. It was my fault if you can imagine that :) I had re-wired some stuff last week and messed it all up so I got it straightened out and everything back to working normal. Thanks all for your input.

Weeelllll, in a kinda sorta roundabout way. Originally no but when I redid the trolling motor it wound up that way.The good thing is it's all right now and everything works.

It’s nice to know that the over-voltage protection circuitry in your 597ci worked pvasst1.:D
