Could anyone help me out and tell what what some of those flies are made w? Like the bodies? I like the green on the top and some of those blues, are they those glass beads or like a sparkle lace type stuff? I'm fixin to take a trip to Hobby Lobby to get some stuff alil cheaper then Bass Pro, and so was hopin to find out.
Thanks,

Any colored thin plastic lacing will work. Some of them look like thread bodies with a dubbing collar. You can use beads as bodies if you want or wrap the body with wire.
What type and size of beads for the body? Do you just slide the beads on the hook or do you do something else to keep them secured or let them roll?
The size of the bead depends on the size of the hook, the type depends on what you want the fly to do. A glass or plastic bead will give lots of sparkle with little extra weight, a metal bead supplies weight without needing extra lead keeping the body thin. You just slide the bead on the hook and wrap the thread behind it or just tie the fly as normal.
Take care if you are not buying beads made for fly tying, some holes are too small to round the bend if the hole is the same size. Beads made for tying have a 'two size' hole, one side is bigger than the other, allowing it to clear a tighter bend. Just be sure the bead won't pass the eye or you'll need to glue it in place.
Go on Google and type in bead flies and do some looking in there and then check out Larva Lace. There are also some books on bead flies. Highly recommended for small flies for pan fish and be sure and use glass beads. These are one of the most over looked flies. Cheap and easy to tie a work fantastic.
Where is the best place to get the glass beads?
Go to Google and type in Fly Tying Glass Beads enjoy
K, I have some ambered colors Larva lace, just not sure nor have had to time to find out how to tie it on a hook for a fly.
There has to be a web site for Larva Lace and how to use it. Did you do a Google search? I do know that at one time the guy that came out with it wrote a book on how to use it. Find the name and check with a used book store for a copy. I do not ever recommend anyone getting in fly tying until he gets a copy of FLY TYERS BENCHSIDE REFERENCE.
Sorry for taking so long to get back on here but I do not normally check this board that often I tied the flies with flex floss and thread. I have given some a dubbed thorax and head. The 2 in the upper right of the pic are tied using glass beads. They are 11/0 size glass beads with a dubbed head. I just slide the glass beads on the hook and use the thread to secure.
