when i cleaned the crappie monday, it seemed like there was a large amount of what looked like stomach fat (white, fatty mass) in the belly...........never seen that before in such a large mass. any one know why or what this is?

look above his belt and below his neck and you'll see what it is LOL that or take a look at Wannabes head, same stuff
You obviously stumbled on to a school smoking crack. When Crappie hit the pipe, that white stuff builds up in their system. I say that on account of them being good looking fish. And that being the case, and you being you, that's about the only way I can figure you caught em....on account of them being under the influence.

You will start seeing eggs in females from now until the spawn starts. When you start seeing blood in the eggs, they are getting ready to spawn. They gray matter you see is as Mr. Jim and DD said- just plain old fat. Thet're getting ready for cold weather and putting on a few extra love ounces.
