Can you cut the shaft off a terrova?
Has to be done by "authorized" service center to keep warranty. When I got mine it came with a 54" shaft and I thought that I would want to have it cut down some but I'm glad I didn't.
Like Major said if I were you I would try the 54" before I cut anything. The Terrova comes with a locking collar that will allow you to set the depth where you want it (in the case of shallow running in the Spring). The extra length will also allow you to choke down on the shaft some giving you extra leverage when you decide to raise it to change locations. Great trollers!!!
OK...Yikess just answered some of the questions....I just wonderd why you huys were glad you did not shorten the shaft.
Sure helps us old guys with bad backs----:D:D
amen frank
How high do you guys like the TM to stick up past the lock collar?
G, mine sticks up only a couple inches because I troll from the very back seat in the boat and that raises the bow up some and I don't want any cavitation.
Bought a 60 inch terrova with i pilot thinking that you could cut or shorten the shaft called a minn kota authorized service center and he said he would not atempt to cut the shaft on a terrova then i called minn kota and they said that you couldn't cut the shaft. Anyone know anything about it or had it done?

I think "feelay" on the MS board had his cut down by and authorized service center & kept his warranty. I called a local asc when I got mine and he said he could cut it. Not sure why you are getting contrary info.
Well....i'am feeling better called another asc today and he said he would do it....I thought now wait a minute, so called minn kota as soon as i hung from the asc, different person different story,Said yes you can cut them............i don't know.
what if you cut it then find out you need a longer shaft, say in rough water, run it a bit with the long shaft, see how you like it, you may want to keep it. possible
I planned to cut mine off, but no longer see the need. If it's shallow, I pull it up temporarily. If I need to go under a bridge, I push it down. At other times, I kinda like the "ET phone home" look.

feelay over on the MS board had his cut down by a authorized MinnKota repair center.....shoot him a PM and he can tell ya about it. I know several folks that have cut their own....just have to be careful not to cut or nick the wires.
If you cut it, you can get a replacement longer shaft from an ASC. I think somebody on the MS board bought a short one and had it replaced with a long one. Seems like I remember being told it was $100 to do.
Wannabe...
Well thinking about utting the shaft on a 60 inch terrova before installing it on the 861 predator ....what length would you guys cut it at?haven't got the boat yet thanks to john ward.
I like the 54" shaft on my Tracker 175PC. I would not want it any shorter and have never had a need for it to be any longer.
leave it long it will save your back
Got mine with a 54" shaft and really dont see any reason to shorten it. Like they all say it does help when deploying and retreving it to move.
