i hope it dont go though lol, i just bought a 100lbs and traded for another 100lbs....hmmm
Better start buying some Zinc,lol.
does any one know what the melting point for tin is ? is it higher or lower then lead and how does it pour compared to lead?
tin melting point 449.41998 °F
lead melting point 621.5 °F
so does that mean that my DO-ITmolds will work with tin as well?
You'll need a flyrod to cast them out, lol.I'm going to start making them out of old nuts and soldering the hooks on.Oh.that's right. No more solder either.

Forget Zinc!!!! This is the comment on what they propose to be banned:
"certain smaller size fishing sinkers containing lead and zinc, and mixed with other substances, including those made of brass"
That word other substances without full explanation is the scary part of this. It could include many things and they don't specify.
Tungsten is out of everyone's reach cause it would Destroy your molds, and I sure don't have a melter to reach 6192 °F
It's easy for them to say alternate materials but I know for one I don't have the available cash to replace all my lead based lures and replace my stock of lead with alternates.

Oh, don't worry.I'll be buying whatever it is from you guys, lol.
Start saving your dead batteries...

I use tin and I prefer it over lead for pouring in molds. Just have to trouble shoot a little. Cooler temp. Keeps your mold cooler when pouring. And don't worry I'll supply anyone with tin as cheap as I can. lol. I still use some lead products for fishing. Don't know what I'll do about that.

TT- What's the difference in jig size? If you put 1/16 oz lead & tin side-by-side, how much bigger is the tin one?
i got some 99.9% pure tin from a place i know :) my little secret ;D and im going to give the tin jigs a shot i only got like a 2lbs ingot but got to start somewhere :)
The weight difference is not that bad. I have both and I would say that size difference is only about 5-7%.
Tin, Bismuth, timonium and other metals all have melting points as low if not lower than lead and alloys lower melting points even more.
It wouldn't be my first surprise by far, but I will be surprised again if they get this lead banned thing passed. Just can't see it. Have some tin heads I bought 4 years ago I think, never tied one of them.
Mark this down, if it goes through they will be some happy guy selling jigs, because I will quit selling jigs! Don't get to tie what I want anyway so even if I had to quit, I would still tie, but just for me.

Who's got some tin?I need some,lol.
Okay on a 1/16 barbed ball I cast a 3/32 to get the weight.
On a 1/16 round ball I cast a 1/8 to get weight.
It all depends on how the mold is made. That is all I will say, cause I'm playing this lottery number. LOL
Oh yeah I have about 220 lbs. of 98% pure tin.

Where can you buy Tin,and will it hurt my Do-it molds?
It will keep your molds cooler while pouring. I have not had any mold problems so far. I need to ask Do It why they have printed on the paper work that comes with the molds not to use tin. I like it better than lead. The tin is easy to get. But to get a better deal you will have to order a large amount. The flat rate boxes is the best way to ship. If it comes to it, I'll try to help anyone with questions. I'll try. Okay.
