Fixin to build me a shed for the boat

Gonna make it 20 foot long and 12 foot wide.
Post at the 4 corners and then one in the middle on the length section of 20 feet. That'll be 6 posts total with 2x6 or 2x8's connection. It'll be 8 foot high at the front and 7 1/2 at the back so it'll drain and not pond. Once that's done, I'll use 2x4's for the roof and trying to figure out what to put for the actual roof that's decent looking but fairly cheap. Not sure what it's made of but it's shaped like sheets of tin but I think it's made of Fiberglass. I want 6 x 6 posts but I'll be danged if'n Lowes don't have them here. Think 4x4's will be strong enough? I don't think they will

With your building skills what differance will it make? I give it till the first wind storm to fall in yo boat!

I know a spot in Grenada that we can get some crisoe poles. We could get them sometime after dark. Just have to remove some deck boards 1st.

I did take Ag in high school for 4 years so I can do more than you think I can. They even had us making Duck boxes and those big round hay bale racks. Besides, I can design a house so I know how to do it

4x4's will be plenty. There's a treatin plant just north of hwy 80 and just west of 55 that will prolly sell you some at a decent price. Can't remember the name of tge place tho. And they do make a tin shaped fiberglass. There's another profit that looks better than tge fiberglass that comes in different colors.

Course you could use cardboard and duck tape.

I want the whiteish color so it'll let more light in there so my grass will stay dryer.

Whatever you do and whatever you make it out of, just don't put a shelf in the back of it about cowling high. Ain't that right Bigger?

When you decide how and what you will need. There is fellow over towards Brackston that buys chicken houses and resales the lumber and tin roofing. I bought 10 sheets of the old tin roofing for $3.00 per sheet. He also sells 2x6's for $3.00. He has metal truses and just about any thing else.

How long is your boat? Have you measured from the motor to the tongue on the trailor? 20 seems short to me, maybe your boat just looks longer in the pics. Course if you aint' gonna put a door on it then it don't matter, but it would be nice to have a door on the building

Gonna put some siding down on 3 sides but not all the way to the ground. Maye just put it to about 5 feet off the ground so I can keep it shorter. This will also give me a place to store my rods that's covered and out of the garage

I'm with Wish4. For an 18' boat, ya really need 24' of depth and with some, that'd be a tad short. Better to built it for the boat you might some day want than for the boat ya got, on top of that.

I don't know dip about building structures, but your pitch sounds shallow to me as well.

You may want to check into one of those all metal carports. I see them bigger than what you want advertised around here for less than $600 installed. You can enclose it with sheet metal if you need walls.

I could steal all of that stuff in record time:D

I just did a down and dirty cost estimate and I'm at $425 without the roofing material. How big is that one you're talking about at 600 bucks? 20 foot is plenty long enough to get the entire boat under it. 24 would be better but I can work with 20. My yards not that big anyways. Need minimum of 10 feet wide for sure with a 96 inch beam

Thats what I did...18 x 25 with the side walls covered halfway down. It was cheaper than buying the materials at Lowes and building my own with a treated lumber frame and a tin top.

You really need at least 12' wide. If I come down there to see Nessa and wanna walk around your boat, I can't do it if it's just 10 wide. Jus sayin.

Note to self... Invest quickly in duck tape and cardboard... The stocks are gonna rise soon!

if you'd lose some of that gut you got going on, you could walk around the boat alot easier, just sayin. LOL :D

I don't know, haven't been shopping them just drive by and see 5 or 6 different sized ones on a corner with a sign that says starting at $4?? I can check tomorrow when I go to Southaven if you like.

Get the single wide carport then...its cheaper anyway.

They's a place in west point ms that builds to yo specs I think. I'll be there Friday and see is they still there.

IF anyone gets happens to find out the price installed, let me know. 12 x 22 is the bare minimun and 12x25 the max

I have a 12'x25' up at the river. It was $825 installed 2 years ago. No sides or doors just the top. I can get the sides later if I want.

Carolina Carports, Inc. I got the standard 18x21 for $695. Covers the boat well but the motor and tongue get too much sun and rain at times. They have the 12x26 for $895.

Use metal for the top. I just built a barn 40 feet wide and 80 feet long. Very good prices at Reeds Metals in Brookhaven. 601-823-6516. Can't go wrong.

Might want to shop around the building supplies also....I know that around here the local building suppliers beat the pants off of Lowes on that kind of stuff....$425 sounds like an awful lot on that amount of building materials....Be hard to beat a metal building but wood is simple and easy and LOTS easier to build shelves and things like that in....if you've got many leaves falling around I'd be worried about a roof pitch that flat also.....I'd definitely want to go with metal on anything less than a 3/12 pitch.....just my 2 cents.....

is getting treated lumber or so I found out when looking at building supplies. OUCH, almost 30 bucks for some 10 foot 4x4's treated

In this area, you can buy the additional material for the walls and have the installers do it. You can even get doors!

DD with the theft you've already had, I'd think you'd be wise to get the shed to the point it can be theft proof!

The downside is the addition to your property taxes. OUCH!

If you are gonna put sides on it the only thing I would get treated would be the posts since the sides and top should keep everything else dry.....That price sounds really high to me...I don't think I paid near that for treated 6x6's when I built my porch last summer although I know prices fluctuate...
