Saturday, Sept. 4 dawned a cool day in the northern Mississippi delta. My
boat sits in the water waiting for action as I turn my attention to the action occuring in the tops of the pecan trees. I reach my squirrel limit by 9:00am and retrieve my son from the dove field and we manage to get in the boat at 12:00 noon. We checked every stake-bed, treetop, and stump that could be found and managed over 40 crappie. I didn't take the time to take but a few pictures this time...
Those look like fox squirrel to me, bet some of the jig tie folk would love those tails.
Yep....need to send those tails to Scottv. :)

that is a good day in the woods field and the water that had to be fun for the two of you i have dun combo trips like that deer in the morning crappie in the afternoon

Been to Beulah once, years ago and I've never been to Whittington. I've spent the vast majority of my crappie fishing from Desoto Lake northward. I actually think that the further south you go in Mississippi, the worse the crappie fishing. Although, there will be MANY on this board that will take exception to that statement.
Especially those who love my home waters of Ross Barnett... ;)

I also was fishing Ross Barnett in the late 60's thru my college years in the 80's. I absolutely love that reservoir for its diverse structure environments. Open water bays, lilly-pad fields, stump fields, creeks, river, sand-bars, rip-rap, marinas, etc. Ross Barnett truly has a little of everything to offer a fisherman.
You can look me up, but during duck season I'll probably be about 25 ft. up a cottonwood tree somewhere along the river. ;)

Put those with my mess and it was a great weekend for fishing.
I hope to lower the water level some more this coming weekend. With this warm-up I'm not nearly excited enough nor mad enough at them squirrels to molest them any further. Therefore I will be FORCED to turn my attention back to the fish.
