Hey Guys,
Never fished Taylorsville but thinking about giving it a try. Any advise as to area to begin would be deeply appreciated. Also are minnows or plastics a better bet. Really any information would be great. Thanks

T-ville is a tough lake to figure out. So much cover you don't know where to start. If your coming in from Settlers Trace you may try the flat over to the left going out to the main lake. Other than that find some dead fall's and standing timber and dip some minners. Good Luck
Hey buddy!!! Long time since we talked. I agree, you need to find some blowdowns and drop some minnows. Last year I got on some old fish attractors and did real good for T-Ville. I have not been much this year. At this time of the year you can always hang some lanterns and catch crappie. Find a blowdown and fire up the lights. Take some snacks and give it about an hour. They will come in. Probelm is, so will the hybrids and when they do the crappie are gone. Of course, the hybrids are great fighters and fun to catch. Good luck.
Hey Jigboy.
Good to hear from you. I know its been a while. A year ago I was in an accident and broke my back so I was out of commission for a long while. This late spring when I was able to resume fishing, I had trouble with my motor and just recently replaced it - so I'm ready (more than) to get out fishin again.
Appreciate the advise. Are there bait shops in the area where you can get minnows? And what ramp do you advise using?
Hope you're doing well!

Settlers Trace would be best coming from Louisville. There is a gas station at the top of the hill that has minnows. They also sell them at the boat dock where you ramp.
Good to hear your on your feet again. Let us know how you do.
HI Ted
Glad you're up and about. Like JigBoy said we've missed you.
If you're going thru J-Town there's a great bait shop right on the town square. It's been there for years. I even knew the guy that opened it, but he's been gone for a long time now.
You can't miss the place it's on the right just after you cross the intersection.
Good luck to you.
He is talking about Karem's Baitshop and there are probably two or three others on the way to the lake. If during the week use Settlers Trace. If going on a weekend you might look at one of the others. Glad to here your doing ok. I haven't been on the water in awhile and now we are getting ready for hunting season next week. I do want to get out some and will probably head out in October.
Settlers Trace Grocery at the top of the hill closed down. Not sure as to what happened there, but be sure you get your bait before you get there. Good luck fishing
Didn't know that. thanks for the heads up!
Hey Guys,
Thanks for all the help and well wishes. Good to hear from you. The info on the bait shops is great!
From your experience, do minnows or tubes work better at T-ville?
from my experience nothing works on T-ville, but I'll keep trying. Out there Wed. tried tubes, hand tied jigs and minnows had 1 good bite and missed it.
Somewhere on here a guy said find the shad, find the fish. Well I found the shad in very large bait balls, I found the fish, I just couldn't find what they wanted to encourage them to get in my boat. :D almost forgot, spider rigging 4 poles 2 hooks each various depths. fish ranging from 10 to 20 ft in 30 ft of water.
and now I know why the store at the top of the hill isn't open in the early morning.
is there a place to buy minnows at Possum Ridge ?.....or just at settlers trace ?......
Settler's Trace (gas station) & the Marina are the only "close" places to buy minnows (that I've ever used) .... but, there may be some in the gas/groceries/bait stores along the roads surrounding the lake. I've always used the gas station/deli/baitshop, at the top of the hill where you turn into the road that goes to Settler's Trace Marina/ramp.
If you're coming in on 248 and Possum Ridge ramp is the closest one ... it's a tossup as to whether it's cheaper to drive on around to the gas station & get minnows ... or put in at Possum Ridge & stop at the Marina. I haven't bought minnows down there, at either place, in so long ... I'm not really sure about it. I normally get minnows here in town & transport them .... but, it's been so long since I've done that ... I'm not even sure the PDQ Market, here in Lex., still sells them. LOL !!
I'd venture to guess that both places on Taylorsville Lake, get their minnows from the same people .... so it's probably just a matter of selling price, and whether or not the Marina is open when you get there (and even has any minnows to sell). I think the Marina opens at 7 or 8AM ... and the Settler's Trace Gas/bait store opens at 5AM (someone chime in and correct me on that, if I'm wrong).
... cp
going to try T-Ville this Saturday... putting in at Chowning Lane boat ramp fish all the way down to Van Buren....spider rigged ......slow trolling fishing 8-12 of water in bout 20-25 ft
Know you will but be sure to let us know how things go at T-ville. Conditions and all. Thanks! Hope you run into some. Good news from T- Ville is always welcomed.
Taylorsville or Elmer Davis ...........been catching a few 10 -11 inch crappie out of Elmer Davis lately ...but , Taylorsville around Chowning should be hitting in 8-10 ft of water...................Decisions- Decesions
.......
The marina is closed so you can't get minnows there anymore this year.
They closed a couple weeks ago for the season.
I went to Taylorsville yesterday.
The water was 64 to 65 degrees.
It's black at Settlers Trace to about 2 miles up the lake
then it looks pretty good.
I caught 9 nice large crappies, mostly with monnows in the brush.
Some shallow, some in deep water.
Mostly up the lake past the black water.
Real scattered, only 1 at a spot at a time.
Thanks JC for the post about Taylorsville, that tells me not to take the wife there Sunday and go golfing instead.
Looks like Elmer Davis in the morning......
