Anything big enough to keep the 10in-ers off my hook......
For me, It depends on if I'm anchoring, drifting, walking baits etc.... I (and others I know) change their hook styles for the various techniques. Kahle and Circle hooks is what I use mostly. Either one of those with a properly rigged snell knot definatly increases my hook-ups. I have started using this way to rig for crappie and other fish too.
I like the 7/0 sickle hooks. Extremely sharp. The hook will work for you.
7/0 circle hook. Fell in love with them fishing salt water, but now crappie and catfish.
Chuck
I prefer a double action style hook so I have the choice of a reel down or a hook set. size depends on the size bait im usung and the size cats I am after.
Most of my cat fishing is for blues and I use circle hooks for those. Most channels here are the small ones is why I fish for blues.
I like a 3/0 or 4/0 L197 circle; even when pier fishing I have my rods in holders so I can just reel down and there he is.

I've been a catfisherman since the beginning and until about 2 years ago that's all I ever persued until I got the crappie bug. I have *alot* of cat gear and the only thing you will find other than snagging hooks in my bags are gamakatsu circle hooks. I started using circles about 8 or 9 years ago and after seeing the gamakatsus stacked up against the competition it was clear. I have never at any point had a hook failure with them.
1/0 2/0 circle hooks snelled on, here too. Very few deep hooks, none at all this year.
Caught my first Channel Cat in October at Sandy Point State Park on the Chesapeake in October on a 4/0 Gami circle and a chunk of leftover jersey piranha. Was fishing for stripers and got this nice fat 22".Attachment 74717

Sickel hooks for me
If I am using prepared baits, I use trebles, anything else its a circle. Of course lately I've been catching a bunch off 2x long shank snells I use for gills. Cats tear those hooks up.
Gamakatsu circle
Cant beat a circle hook id say, i use for other fish too, took a bit to get used to the idea of not slamming the rod to set the hook.
Circle hooks all the way
I normally use the J Hook to stick a small piece of hot dog on and slowly drag it along the bottom. I'm curious though, why circle hooks?
I flip between Circle & Khale. Use Chicken Liver (most often) Sits very well on the Khale Hooks in my opinion, esp. w/the panty hoes trick. Or elastic string.
Circle hooks for me. They are a little harder to bait up with some baits like nightcrawlers, but they seem to hold the bait better, keep fish on better, and make it easier for you to get the fish off the hook.
I use chicken liver for channels, and so I use an Eagle Claw Lazer red # *4 treble, or a # 2 size. They have done me well so far.
