2011 FJ rules discussion

OK, I'm workin' on 'em, but I need some input. The one I'm struggling with the defining what a team is for purposes of qualification for the championship.

I'm thinking about designating who the team is when 2 guys show up to fish their first FJ, then allowing up to 3 substitutions throughout the year for a team member that can't fish...including the championship. This would seem the most open way to go for folks that can't commit to fishing every one of them for work or family etc.

Then again, that brings the "ringer" factor in. Honestly though, I could care less who I'm fishing against.

The other way to do it would be to not allow substitutions at all.....but take somebody like Feelay or Bigger as an example and that seems like a bad way to go. Heck, this year, technically, I only fished with the same crew twice myself.

Then, what do you do if we have a lovers quarrel between somebody like Sat and Torch mid-year......can they reform new teams and continue on?

Dang, this gets complicated.

Each individual pays their $25. Then come championship time, "has the individual paid up for 3 tournaments?"

Any paying individual can ride in whatever boat they wish.

Dang....there ought to be a way to keep things simple....after all these are just fruit jar tourneys.

We could go back to the QUALIFIED BOAT junk again, but that would raise more contriversy. If the boat broke down , like a unnamed WB, what would happen then.. I think as long as a person has paid for 3 FJ's he or she would be qualified!

That's a good option ES. Dang, you're smarter than you look. That would qualify each individual for the championship and almost eliminate the possibility of someone using a ringer at the end. Also in the case of a lovers quarrell, each team member could team up with someone else who has qualified. Just keep plenty of blue towels in the boat for Torch. ;)

Don't qualify the teams......qualify individual fisherman. Then they can fish with any other qualified fisherman they want to in the championship or fish by theirselves whatever. Keep it simple.

I started down that road, but backed out of it because, what do you do with somebody like Major? Make him pay 2 entries to fish alone? Or are ya'll OK with him paying $25 and competing against 2 man teams, but only putting in 1/2 of what the other teams do.....on the other side, he would have half the risk or twice the rewards. ??????

'Course, in effect, we've made him pay 2 entries to fish by himself, so I don't guess he'd have a problem with continuing to do so.

One other thing.....that'd be $25 each, and a 2 man pole limit, but what about somebody like me that has 3 in the boat? 3 entries or max out at 2 per boat?

$25 per individual........If a team wins they split the money....If you fish by yourself you have a chance at winning the whole pot.

2 person limit on entry fees per boat. If someone is fishing alone then $25 entry fee because he can only use half of the poles as everyone else

I would still pay $50 by myself.

A'ite, I'm liking the $25 each and yeah, I see the pole limit as being the equalizer. There's gonnabe a 5 per persom max, so Washington (with no pole limit on the lake) will be equalized as well.....

But now keep in mind....take some big shot pro or guide......say Wally Marshal decides to jack-pot us...fishes 3 at only $25 each then qualifies for the championship...maybe even free then wins the championship and takes the big money? Ya'll OK with that? I would be fine with that...but I don't want no whining down the road.

One other mathematical issue...for 2010, $5 of each $40 entry went toward the championship....should a single person's $25 be split - $5 to big fish, $5 to the championship and $15 towards that FJ's pot or....$2.50 to the championship and $2.50 to the big fish? I'm thinking $5 forwards....I ain't interested in carrying change.

Also, if we end up with a bunch of singles are your feelings going to change on the matter? So far, it's been mostly teams with an occassional single. Monetarily, I can see a real reason to fish by yourself under this system....

There is no way to make the rules perfect....but they can be made simple. After all this is a fruit jar not the grand national crappiethon of the world, Lol. :D

So, let me make sure I am getting this. If my FIL fishes one tournament, son one tournament, and wifey a tournament or two, then come champ time none of them can fish in it?

Bring em on. Lol it's fun to take on the big dogs sometimes. I don't think ole Wally has time to fool with us anyway

It does not matter to me, let's just set the rules then stick to them.

That's where we're headed Triton....although I haven't brought up yet that there will be a provision made to allow someone to "buy in" to the championship. I'm thinking if a fella fished 2 and wanted in, they should pay an additional 2 entries or and additional $40 (That's 20 times 2 since of the normal 25, 5 goes to big fish).

In you example, say you wanted to fish with April in the championship and you had not placed all year, then you would pay $25 for you, $25 for April for the Championship, plus and additional 3 entries for April or $60 (fished 1, plus 3 x $20). $110 total including big fish for the championship.

So, it would be fish 3 or pay for 4 to qualify......

I kinda like having to earn your place in the Championship. It would be a whole lot cheaper for me to just buy in instead of fishing 3 FJ's. No buy ins as far as I'm concerned. You have to earn a spot.

That is true.

But we need some provision for folks like Triton or me that fish with multiple partners that can't qualify a partner. A waiver, perhaps? I dunno, but there's lot of situations that crop up that we need some way to get 'em in...break downs, illnesses.

Got any ideas?

There are what? 6 FJ's? There is plenty of opportunity to fish with multiple partners and still qualify one for the Championship.

if you fish in three tourn. fish with whoever you want to in the championsip that would solve the problem one guy shouldnt have to fish by himself if something has come up and his partner cant fish who cares whos fishing as long as one person in that boat has qualified......its just a dadgum fj toun......................................

I tend towards Munta's thinking on this, but see Speck's point about "earning" into the championship.

I'm gonna wait and see what the majority has to say. Ya'll speak up.

I like munta's idea. I think as long as one person on the team has fished 3, then come championship tournament time that person (usually the boat owner) could fish with whoever has fished with him prior in the year. I understand the confusion this may cause, but like Munta said, this is just a FJ and supposed to be fun. And part of the fun for me is having different members of my family fish with me as they can.

I like Munta's too. But I think we should be like MCC. If you don;t fish the required tourneys then pay the difference.

I'm in the same situation as WB. I might fish with my Dad, brother, friend, or by myself. Whoever whats to come if anyone at all. I wouldn't want to be forced into fishing the championship alone because of this. The the "buy in" is fine with me. And I don't know any Wally Marshall's, just folk that rarely get to fish like me

How about a compromise? A Championship partner can qualify if the have fished in at least 2 FJ's and then buy in for 2 more plus the entry fee? I'm just trying to keep Yikess from dropping me for the Championship and buying in Capps and Coleman to fish with him

However, in reality, the fees have been paid. For exmple
Tournament #1 Triton - FIL
Tournament #2 Triton - Son
Tournament #3 Triton - Wife
Tournament #4 Triton - FIL
Championship - Triton - Wife

Now wife has not paid dues for 3 tournaments, but FIL and Son paid in 3 tournaments and are not fishing chamionship. SO, fees are paid so why should a penalty be assessed.

This brings "The Boat" back into the picture. Individuals must pay
